Gatorade's new Derek Jeter commercial featuring the legendary shortstop walking to work and embracing New Yorkers seems to be getting positive reviews by everyone.
Well, almost everyone. Chris Carlin, the co-host of SportsNet New York's "Loudmouths," isn't a big fan.
Carlin called Jeter a "fraud" for doing the ad, saying that it's not reflective of who he actually is. He then called the rest of us "suckers" for buying into it.
"It's that this has never been what Derek Jeter has been about," Carlin said. "He has been about the team — not me. He's never let us into his personal life, because he's always been about the team. Frankly he's being a complete fraud right now."

Jeter has always seemed like a class act to me.
Steroids. Wife beating. Drugs. Child abuse. Of all the things professional athletes get involved with these day, THIS is the worst they could come up with?
This, along with the NFL thing, is now what sportscasters think is a new gateway to an increased tabloid-level audience attracted by inflammatory blather in the shiny-object school of what’s happening now.
Personally, I didn’t give a crap before, so I couldn’t really be less interested. I am sure there is a a Kardashian based school of fans for this, I guess they’ll find out.

Same here. I hate the Yankees but have always been a Jeter fan. I wonder if this guy was talking about Obama and everyone thought he was talking about Jeter. I can believe this about Obama.
Never been a fan of the evil empire but Jeter has always been OK in my book. Certainly better than that other big star they had on the team.
He always gives them a gift bag in the morning-Classy!

sounds to me like someone, in this case Carlin, feels the need to act obnoxious for a little attention...as a long time suffering NY Mets fan i think the commercial is fantastic; maybe thats not who Jeter really is but the unrehearsed joy on the faces of Yankee fans he unexpectedly meets on the street is priceless...

One item sure to be in the sports news tonight is the odd unreviewable wrong call that ended up being overturned by the umpires on the field and cost KC a run.

The KC third base coach can be seen waving the runners, so he can share a little of the blame for not telling the runner to tag up.
The article mentions that Chris Carlin, the broadcaster who made the statements about Jeter, works for Sportsnet NY (SNY). What they do not mention is that SNY is owned by the Wilpons who also happen to own the crosstown Mets. If anyone wants to kill a few hours they can go ahead and do a search on the Wilpons and take a good look at their shady behavior, and shady is being nice. Jeter on the other hand is a guy nobody has ever been able to pin anything bad on, and finding something bad would have made someone in the NY media VERY rich and famous.
I was going to mention that, too. Does the phrase “sour grapes” apply here?
