Mayor Martin J. Walsh has launched an initiative this month targeting the city’s black and Latino boys and men, a population at risk for joblessness, poverty, and a host of health disparities, according to several studies.
Building on the lead of President Obama earlier this year, the mayor is introducing Boston’s version of “My Brother’s Keeper,’’ a network meant to bridge the gap between men of color and their potential achievements.
“There are a lot of young black and Latino men that we have here in our city that need this initiative,’’ Walsh said in an interview. “This can be helpful in changing their lives.”

Young men of color are thriving, holding down jobs, getting good grades, and helping to sustain their families. But a disproportionate number of them are struggling, failing school or dropping out, according to recent studies.
It’s interesting to me that both modern conservative and modern liberals have virtually nothing to say about God in this connection.
They do need a government program, as do all of us. The One upon Whose shoulders the government will be. But, they must apply.
The liberal problem is idolizing earthly government. The conservative problem is (often) idolizing self.
The Soft Bigotry of Low Expectations
Racist programs like this one violate the Fourteenth Amendment, don’t they?
How is it the courts let the cities get away with it?
Even worse is the soft blasphemy of a feeble idea of God.
Or even natural law and common sense.
Could it be that “men and boys of color” are struggling because of the high bastardity rate in their culture?
Could it be that this high rate of fatherlessness is due to liberal welfare policy?
(YES AND YES, of course)
For the same reason Affirmative Action still finds legal fans.
But even if there were a white version it wouldn’t change the wisdom (or lack thereof) of the plan.
I’d be perfectly fine with black support groups, if they exalted God and asked for His blessings. The trouble is, methinks, they took the Wrong Rev. Wright’s “God damn America” too unthinkingly, not realizing it would curse them, too!
I resist the temptation to preach natural law and common sense, except in that it serves as a feeble, flawed illustration of the character of a perfect holy and loving God.
We need uncommon sense and supernatural law.
I thought that the gazillions put into the ‘Great Society’, midnight basketball, replacing food stamps with a ‘credit card looking’ card, Section 8 housing, employment etc were going to take care of this ‘low esteem’ problem.
EVERY ethnic group had its ‘turn in the barrell’ and when the ‘group’ banded together to make things better (their own schools, churches etc) in 20-30 (a generation or 2) years they were not only the decision makers but all but the ‘sorriest’ of the lot were basically ‘making it’.
LBJ ‘invented’ the Great Society 50 years ago and we have virtually seen the ‘target’ audience GET WORSE in terms of self help and especially in self determination.
The results were ‘flipped’ from the other groups...a goodly portion ‘got out’ but far too many were left to ‘rot’ in the inner cities.
Remember the ‘beautification programs’ of the inner cities, where the ‘institutions were dropped’, flop houses were razed, businesses that hired ‘common folk’ were driven out and the ‘homeless’ were thrust upon us
It isn’t “Where did they come from” etc, ‘they’ were always there, they just got turned out onto the street.
Is the ‘inner city’ of today going to go through the same ‘Urban Renewal’process?
That is when it will get interesting,— but I guess ‘they’ will wait until this latest round of ‘immigrants’ takes control of the inner cities, thereby ‘ejecting’ the current denizens —till further actions will be taken.
When you say “natural law and common sense”,
leftists don’t have the automatic, visceral reaction due to their rebellion, to not listen further,
like they would if you say “God hath said”.
Of course, we know that these “natural” laws are simply the visible expression of the character and nature of the perfect and holy Creator.
These earthly schemes ended up being a trap.
This sold the idea of government as an idol to millions who did not look past the programs to God.
Government (and liberals) might be flattered at first, but soon, like the Sorcerer’s Apprentice, they will gasp at what a demanding monster they have engendered in this needy people.

No, they are His feeble reflection in a fallen world.
They were capitalized on by a worldly church to justify its worldly ideas.
“boys of color”
“of color” is a racial superiority term, by the way.
That makes those of my looks (”pink skins”) the “people of no color” which implies that we pinkies are of less value because we have no color.
Maybe an alternate, more unifying term, a term that would be a step in the right direction would be people “of color conciousness” (which could be people of any color, by the way).
Good ol’ libs. No “person of color” is capable of doing anything for themselves. Do you hear this “people of color?” You need to rely on liberal overseers. Argue with a liberal about their evolution faith. They will tell you all day long that everything and everyone has evolved and is different in one way or another. HOWEVER the only thing NOT different are human ethnicities. If that is the case. Then WHY do “people” of color need more help than other people???
I say rednecks come in every color, and redneck is what a humble, God-grateful society would tend to look like.
Thank God that my white skin makes me immune from those awful things. An employer tried to let me go once, but I just flashed the white skin, and boom, they knew they had to keep me. I'm also able to smoke crack and eat nothing but Krispy Cream donuts with zero negative health effects.
I don't know what it is about this white skin that makes me untouchable, but I'm keeping it baby.
