The greatest disappointment of the 20th Century is that the so-called “greatest generation” spawned the absolute worst one.

Much of it was due to their wanting to spare us the hardships they endured in their youth (Great Depression). They spared us the trials of their youth without realizing that those very trials were instrumental in forging their character. My dad, who died at 42 in 1965, would shudder if he were to witness what we have let slip through our fingers.
