The man who drove his SUV through the front entrance of a mall in Jersey City and crashed it into a vacant store Sunday night told police he "was unsure what happened," according to the accident report.
The 83-year-old from Jersey City was taken to Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health after the accident and was placed under observation for a short time and then released, hospital spokesman Mark Rabson said yesterday.
The crash occurred at 5:47 p.m. Sunday at the Hudson Mall on Route 440. A video of the crash does not show the initial impact at the entrance, but it shows the SUV rolling down a corridor as stunned shoppers scramble to safety. The SUV is seen crashing through a wall, where it finally came to a stop.

Here it comes- The old “I hit the brakes, but somehow the accelerator came on” line.
I saw a car with that bumper sticker once.it was parked on a sidewalk.
Why didn’t you say hello to me?
driving tests every six months after 70
***************************
You must have a very low opinion of the abilities of us in our 70s.
My license was renewed this Summer, when I turned 72, and is good until 2020. I haven’t had a ticket or accident for about 50 years. ....I don’t drive a lot anymore; just every couple of days to run errands. I know my reflexes are likely not as good as they once were, so I stick to surface streets as much as possible and avoid freeways whenever possible. I live alone and would be in a bad situation without being able to drive, as no family members live nearby.
As the old saying goes, "You can make anything fool proof; you just can't make it damn-fool proof"...
After dealing with FIVE different family members in the last few years (who were in their 70’s), I would say yeah I don’t think much of their driving.
But I would be willing to make exceptions to those who pass the driving test every six months!
