Toronto: Denzel Washington Recalls N-Word Insults at 'Equalizer' Press Conference

Denzel Washington’s experience shooting his new movie The Equalizer in Boston revived memories of racial discrimination he encountered more than 30 years ago.

Washington was at the Toronto Film Festival press conference Sunday for Equalizer, which premieres at Roy Thomson Hall. For most of the time, he, director Antoine Fuqua and actors Chloe Grace Moretz and Marton Scokas talked about acting methods and the uneasiness of the first day of shooting. But a question about filming the movie in Boston and a comment Washington made about his wife’s upcoming one-woman show led to unexpected revelations Washington recalled how about three decades ago he was in Boston with wife Pauletta Pearson Washington, who was performing in a play, and some people in his hotel thought he was a pimp, and she was a prostitute. Security was called, and a fight broke out.

I’ve had taxi drivers in Boston put me down for being born in “flyover country”.

Screw Boston.

If you go anywhere there are more than five Negros gathered chances are you'll hear
the (N) word repeated so many times it'll make you wonder what all the fuss is about.

DPS office had one lone Negro on the phone saying the (N) word repeatedly, and loud enough
for the whole place to hear him. Not one person gave a damn. Neither did I.

Must be nice to be a rich victim, huh Danny-boy? wuss..

This seems to be the preferred way certain folks promote their movies these days.

He has no selfies of his tits to leak out, so he had to do something.

How many times do you think Mr. Washington has used the N-Word himself as a term of affection to fellow Blacks?

Thousand times more than an insult directed at him personally.

And you know this how?

They can call this movie whatever they want but it has NOTHING to do with the Equalizer..
Yes this film will likely be a good action film. Washington will do well in it. But anyone that saw the Equalizer who thinks they are going to get another dose of it will be sadly mistaken.

And you know this how?

Cause I've been told it's a cultural thing and perfectly acceptable between Blacks.

And if he didn't, he would be acting white and he might get jumped.

If anybody can get away with "acting white" it would have to be Denzel ...

He's a very good actor, I'll give him that.

..enjoy most his work.

Even when I disagree with the political message.

Wouldn’t mind watching The Equalizer if Edward Woodward was still around and starred in it.

Let’s see. Bad Movie Remakes:

Rollerball
Death Race (2000)
Arthur
The Wicker Man
The Pink Panther
The Day The Earth Stood Still
Swept Away

Bad Movie Remakes of TV shows:

The Dukes of Hazzard
Dark Shadows
Lost In Space
I Spy
Bewitched
The Wild, Wild West
The Avengers

Yeah, bottom line, they took the name of a good series led by a late, great actor, Edward Woodward, and decided to ruin it instead of just pulling another lame title out of their collective buns.

They could have titled it Casablanca, or Gone With The Wind, or E.T., for that matter, and it would still be another lame Denzel Washington movie. Mind you, it wouldn’t have to be, with some screenplay, other good actors, and a good director.

But that would have been harder and more expensive.

I love and respect Denzel. He reads the Bible daily. He is a good man.

And so what- he was sharing an experience he had as a Black man and a 9 year old child in Boston HE isn’t out there screaming about Ferguson like Sharpton and Jessie. I have watched quite a few movies about what Black entertainers had to go through in their Musical and Acting careers, it was brutal.

Read up on Denzel and his first experience feeling the Holy Spirit move through him.

“Spirituality is important in every aspect of my life,” Washington said. “I mean, that’s why I’m here. That’s what I’ve been blessed to do.” (Denzel Washington).

He reads his Bible daily and the Daily word. In an interview with GQ he tells the story of how he first felt the Holy Spirit move through him....

He has a right to talk about his experiences. He isn’t whoring himself out on the Sharpton and Jessie wagon.

He doesn’t have a chip on his shoulder like some of the Black actors in Hollywood.
