I have gotten gift bamboo in tight little containers, and I just stick ‘em in the dirt. They grow beautifully into a nice thicket.
Of course, I live in FL. Your mileage may vary!

I’d like to have a thicket of Rosa Rugosa around the perimeter of our little acre lot. It’s supposed to spread enough to make a nearly impenetrable barrier.
That could maybe keep out some of the dogs and two legged critters that might want to roam around.LOL
