I think instead of Scum I would say Loser.
PB owners tend to come from the lower echelons of society. Probably because life's losers hope that having a Danger Dog will somehow make up for a lot of other shortcomings. There are dogs in my neighborhood, but I can't remember the last time I saw PB. Why? Because a tiny house here costs a million dollars. Kind of excludes the PB crowd.

Maybe you haven’t seen an American Pit Bull, but someone in your neighborhood may well a pedigreed American Staffordshire Terrier or (especially) the much smaller English Staffordshire Terrier, in either case purchased from a reputable breeder.
Average house here costs MORE than a million. And I see pit bulls all the time.
In fact the average house here is over TWO million.
