It’s not life if you are laying on a bed having air pumped into your lungs by a machine.
I think Joan is already gone...the family just hasn’t come to the conclusion she is brain dead from lack of oxygen. Sad...very funny lady.
I’m glad she called out Obama and the Wookie, stood with Israel.
Apparently she didn’t have a directive to physicians in place? This is precisely why we tell all our clients to get their wills, POAs and directives, because when you need it, it’s too late to get it.
When my mother was placed on life support, my brother and I were told we had 10 days to decide — either discontinue life support or place Mom in a nursing home. She could not just stay at the hospital.
It isn't an easy decision to make. Mom had a living will essentially stating if there was no hope for recovery, she wanted us to pull the plug. The tough part is determining whether there is hope. Brother and I finally had a heart-to-heart talk with the head physician of the hospital ICU. While other doctors gave us mumbo-jumbo or no explanation at all, this doctor was direct. He explained Mom's condition in a way anyone could understand, and while he didn't advocate one choice or the other, he detailed thoroughly the consequences of each.
I hope Melissa Rivers has the same type of good counsel. She's going to need all the help she can get
You are medically incorrect. Babies in the NICU for example are frequently on ventilation support and are very much alive and indeed are weaned off of ventilation to go home with their families to lead full and normal lives.
Many people who are ventilated recover. Brain death and cardiovascular status are much better prognostic indicators, and even then there are people who inexplicably recover. It is a very dangerous thing to judge the quality of another human being’s life.
