A staffer on the long-running television crime show Cops was shot and killed Tuesday night, reportedly by gun fire from local police, while videotaping an armed robbery in progress in Omaha, Nebraska, that also left the suspect dead.
According to Deputy Chief David Baker of the Omaha Police Department, the incident took place at a Wendy's restaurant at around 9:20 p.m. CT, in the vicinity of 42nd Street and Dodge.
Initial reports said the TV crew member, later identified by Langley Productions (which produces Cops) as audio technician Bryce Dion had been critically injured. The news of his death broke Wednesday morning, as first reported by the Omaha World-Herald and local NBC affiliate WOWT. The Omaha PD has declined to name the victims or release any further details pending an afternoon press conference, at which Cops creator John Langley is expected to speak.
More than 30 shots were fired, all by officers, according to law enforcement sources that spoke with the World-Herald and WOWT, implying that Omaha police killed both the suspect and the crew member. No officers were injured.

It's reported that the crook had an air gun that looked like a real firearm.
there was no combat, the cops were apparently never under fire
That show has been on for nearly 25 yrs.
It’s amazing they have not lost anyone before this.
Prayers up for the man’s family.

doesn’t excuse this
You don’t shoot people for carrying guns
Now days it's hard to tell.
No More Burger King Or Dairy Queen For Soldiers In AfghanistanAmong the vendors on the chopping block are Burger King, Pizza Hut, T.G.I. Fridays, Orange Julius and Dairy Queen. The military is also cutting back on other luxuries like first-run movies.
You're right, no Wendy's there.
You do if they are in the act of robbery with it.
Now I will say, 30 shots to take down one guy with a BB gun is a bit much.
I am and damn proud of it.
You do shoot people for using guns to rob stores and pointing them at you. Well, maybe you don’t but I would.
But at least those officers were able to safely go home to their families, and that’s all that matters. As for the taxpayers, pay up, or these very same cops will show up at your doorstep to collect their pay (taxes), and throw you out of your home if you don’t pay up, assuming they don’t just shoot you first, because they were afraid of a citizen, who threatened their financial well being. It’s pretty bad when the mafia is easier to deal with than the cops.
Depending on the circumstances of that *particular* situation perhaps you do.Check the title of the piece..."armed robbery".
Well, one things for sure...investigator will probably have a pretty convincing record of what happened in *this* case....70mm cameras and high fidelity audio recorders don't often give grainy, unreliable videos.
Sound guy might have had a boom mike, easily mistaken for a gun by a hyped up, roid-rage cop.
Yeah you’d hope they would know who came in the door with them.
The real question is why was a TV team so close and whether he was hit by an aimed shot or stray fire.
And we have, haven't we?
The cops responded to a call of an armed robbery in progress and at the scene the now dead perp drew and fired an authentic looking Airsoft pistol at the cops at close range inside of the restaurant. All witnessed by the Burger King employees. This was in close quarters with a fraction of a second to react. He wasn’t just shot for carrying a gun.
The three cops reacted as I would suspect anyone would in that situation and eliminated the threat. The crew member who was killed had positioned himself, inadvertently, in a bad spot inside a small enclosed environment. Just listening to the news conference that includes the police chief and the producer of Cops. They laid out very clearly what happened and what was witnessed.
Didn’t the cops on “Reno 911” have a habit of wounding their cameraman?
What have you “see”, nothing so like the shooting in Ferguson keep your bias to yourself until everything is revealed.
The news conference I’m listening to right now laid it all out right now and the Cops producer indicated what was recorded, what the witnesses testified to and indicated that the police acted in a professional manner under unfortunate circumstances. Some of the actual footage will probably be broadcast at some point.
It was inside of a fast food restaurant, small enclosure. The cameraman was inside of the entry vestibule, the perp was rushing for him and firing the Airsoft pistol at the cops. The video and audio indicates that the Airsoft shots did indeed sound real and the officers were firing at him in a split second situation as he ran toward the enclosure where the cameraman was at. One of the bullets unfortunately hit him as the perp brought him into the line of fire. Incidentally, the perp was holding his Airsoft to the head of one of the employees when the police entered.
