Tonight, Sunday, Aug. 24, TNT airs the season-one finale of its post-apocalyptic military drama The Last Ship, which has already received a season-two pick-up.
[...]
Adam Baldwin (Full Metal Jacket, Firefly, Serenity, Independence Day, Chuck) co-stars as Chandler's second in command, XO Mike Slattery. The Illinois native is used to playing military types, and the Navy is apparently happy with how he wears the uniform in The Last Ship and with the show itself.
"They love it," Baldwin tells Breitbart News. "They were thrilled, and the funny thing is, you have a dedicated fan base, and a built-in fan base, from the Navy, because our goal was to portray the Navy as realistically as we could within the scenario and within our Hollywood creation."
Of course, if things aren't done up to Navy snuff, Baldwin and the producers hear about it.

It shows respect for the military and portrays the crew in a decent and honorable way.
Very enjoyable.
I agree. Honor, God, Country. A little cheesy, but interesting. It’s become a favorite of mine.
“Animal Mother” back in action! Sounds like a good one.. I’ll have to tune in.
I like the show.
But sometimes I laugh.
Commanders taking the lead on dangerous missions—while the spec ops guys sit back on the ship.
Hazmat procedures are just horrible (based on my Paramedic/Hazmat trained daughter.)
The best thing I saw last night is that they ran out of fuel. At least that was real. But hacking a keyhole? I dont think so.
All in all, its OK. My wife likes it because McSteamy is the Skipper.
It’s a lot of cheesy.
As a Browncoat I’ve liked the man they call Jayne since Firefly oh and Full Metal Jacket.
And its a good lead in to the laugh out loud funny Falling Skies.
Too bad I have to watch Ray Donavon at 9 and LS at 11.
Pretty subdued role for Baldwin but its a good show all around.
Hubby and I like this show, too; but, he also has complained about that very thing. I call it "Captain Kirk Syndrome".
Ditto!
I spent Saturday flipping back and forth between the Firefly marathon on the science channel and Dr Who marathon on BBC America.
If wishes were horses we’d all be eatin steak.
Like in Star Trek where the top officers are sent to dangerous away missions. What are the other 120 guys on the ship for?
Kirk syndrome come from those of us who wouldn’t ask a single man to do what we wouldn’t do.....
Remember spooks message...
“the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one...”
Kirks reply was:
“Sometimes the needs of the one outweigh the needs of a few or the many”
That is why we put ourselves at risk to save a single person....it’s the message of humanity....vs the message of an alien...
Yes...I know...it’s fiction...
And I love the show.
We love it. But, alas, we have to wait for a year to find out how they get out of this predicament.
Gah...I misspelled spock.....I hang my head in shame....LOL
And so much for ship security, being taken over by a bunch of ex state police.
By the third episode, I told my wife it was like Star Trek on the water. Kirk, Spock, Bones and Ensign skippy make up the landing party. Guess who ain't comin' back.
babylon 5 crusade? in modern times?
