It's just grown men playing a kids game.
Arguments over guys who did that for Ridiculous amounts of money aren't worth spending decades on.

One is the "hasn't Pete suffered enough? The other is the "Pete got exactly what he deserved"
I don't think either of these is relevant. By any objective measure, Rose is one of the best players to ever live. If the Baseball Hall of Fame is intended to recognize and honor the best players of their eras, Rose must be inducted - the HoF is a joke otherwise.

No to Mark McGuire...no to Barry Bonds...no to Roger Clemons...and no to Pete Rose.

There was ONE law that every player knew. The integrity of the game depended on it. Case closed.
Fortunately, now the players have more money than any mobster, so the idea of players taking bribes is obsolete. But, not in Pete’s day.

No proof that Rose took any ‘Roids’. What he did with the betting was bad but done after his playing career. Yeh PR sucks but his MLB career didn’t— he’s HOF material.

Pere Rose the player holds some all time records, and is among the top players in baseball history based on his 20+ year playing career.
Pete Rose the man broke baseball rules by gambling on baseball.
How to reconcile all of that. That is the question I always have.

If Pete Rose were ‘Black’? Just sayin’.

Charlie Hustle should only be inducted into the HOF after he dies. He should not be allowed to give a HOF induction speech.

Depends on what it is that gets recognized. Does the individual’s skill in and of itself be the criteria for recognition, or is personal honor, courage, and commitment a part of the prerequisite? (think: Lou Gehrig)
Of course, these days, we are slouching into a post-Christian age where those three characteristics are considered passé, so I guess one shrugs their shoulders and says “Eh! Sure! Why not?”

“Hasn't he suffered enough?”
***
I'm curious. Is Pete Rose suffering? Is he broke? Homeless? Suffering from some catastrophic illness? I see him on tv and he looks good to me.
Not being in the Hall of Fame doesn't fit my definition of suffering.
To: OL Hickory
It would be sad if “The Hall” played such a huge factor in players’ post-career lives as these articles suggest.
To: OL Hickory
No. Throughout his career as a player and manager, Rule 21d was posted in every locker room and dugout.
BETTING ON BALL GAMES. . . . Any player, umpire, or club or league official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has a duty to perform shall be declared permanently ineligible.
Rule 21d is the cardinal rule of baseball.
Rose has lied about his role every step of the way and if his lips are moving, he's lying now. If Rose is to be admitted, admit Shoeless Joe Jackson, then wait 90 years to admit Rose.
