Motto for today: Don’t aim or threaten a police officer with a knife.
Why not? You are taking your own life in your own hands and asking for an outcome that you now have no control over.
I am sorry for the man’s loss. He should had put the knife down.
I don’t think this will be over in Ferguson anytime soon.
Could be my YouTube settings, but it tells me that the content is restricted and won’t play for me.
I noticed that, too.
Did you hear the bystander’s, “They just killed an unarmed man.”
Ugh!
Personally, I’m using this as a teachable moment. Tactically.
“Ya know, that one seemed like overkill from where Im sitting.”
Really? You’re saying that if I were to wave a knife around in your face, screaming and threatening you, you wouldn’t be inclined to consider your life in danger?
Oh well, takes all kinds. Personally, someone waving a knife in front of me, screaming “SHOOT ME NOW M***** F****! SHOOT ME!”, while ignoring drawn guns and demands to drop the knife, I’m gonna go out on a limb and say he’s a crazy SOB with a knife and a credible threat.
Out of curiosity, have you ever had any self defense or emergency medical training? Are you familiar with a concept called the “21 foot rule”? Ever trained on how to treat an open pneumothorax?
Someone who’s never run or seen a Tueller Drill may have some misconceptions about where and when a person with a knife becomes a threat. Someone who isn’t familiar with the physical realities of knife wounds probably doesn’t have a clear concept of what “lethal” or “dangerous” is either.
Granted, there are interesting discussions to be had about use of force continuum and proper escalation for a range of situations... but really, at the end of the day when a screaming guy with a knife is in your face, you’ve got to decide how much you want to keep said face attached.
In my opinion, good shoot.
“
Clearly ... suicide by police ... “
Yes, yelling SHOOT ME, Shoot me now is a pretty good clue!
They didn’t try to calm the guy down or confront him. Just filmed it to put up on World Star. Disgusting.
“When cops tell you to stop doing something, stop doing it.”
I heard “drop the knife” more than once. The guy was intent on being killed.
Makes sense, thanks.
It means you have to sign in to view. Id U want to see, there is a HuffPo link.......unfortunately, but the vid plays.
” I dont know what he said to the officers but I think the guy taking the video said he was crazy. “
I got the impression that the neighborhood knew this guy was off the tracks, based on behavior. The narrator referred to this a few times. Cops were called before the narrator started filming.
The dead guy was yelling shoot me shoot me to the cops
How about when a cop comes to your house at 10 am on a Saturday morning and says, "Give me all you guns and I don't care if you have a d@mn permit."
I know what a skilled person with a knife who’s already been shot twice and is on the ground can do.....not much.
I never said they should not have shot him.
I said “overkill”, which means “more shots than were necessary”.
I never said they should not have shot him.
I said “overkill”, which means “more shots than were necessary”.
Ya, “REALLY”!
I never said they should not have shot him.
I said “overkill”, which means “more shots than were necessary”.
It may be you. It’s good for any US IP address, though.
Just do a search on Youtube for “powell shooting” a lot more people have it up
If he’s already inside with a gun pointing at you? Do it and if you can get a recording of it.
Get it back later with lawyers.
HuffPo says “COP GUNS DOWN MAN”.
Did they not watch it??
