Pop veteran Sir Cliff Richard has denied claims regarding a sexual assault in the 1980s on a young boy, after his Berkshire home was searched by police.
According to South Yorkshire Police, officers entered property in Sunningdale on Thursday and conducted searches - but the owner was not present at the time and no arrests were made.
In a statement, Sir Cliff said: "The allegations are completely false. Up until now I have chosen not to dignify the false allegations with a response, as it would just give them more oxygen.
"However, the police attended my apartment in Berkshire today without notice - except, it would appear, to the press."
The 73-year-old, who is understood to be in Portugal, added: "I am not presently in the UK, but it goes without saying that I will cooperate fully should the police wish to speak to me.
"Beyond stating that today's allegation is completely false, it would not be appropriate to say anything further until the police investigation has concluded."
Detective Superintendent Matt Fenwick stressed that the investigation was in its "really early stages" and explained: "A search warrant has been granted after police received an allegation of a sexual nature dating back to the 1980s. This involved a young boy under the age of 16 years."
Police have also confirmed that the searches are not linked to Operation Yewtree, which was launched in the wake of the Jimmy Savile scandal.
Sir Cliff Richard, who launched his musical career in the '50s, was knighted in 1995.
1980’s??? What were they looking for? A blue dress (equivalent) with pecker tracks?
How do the Brits feel about Roman Polanski?
This is what makes the truth or falsity of childhood sexual abuse so difficult to determine ...
These people often come out 30 years later. How the heck do we know whether they are telling the truth or lying?
In the meantime, the accused often becomes a pariah, whether or not the charge is true.
Hey, stuff about Clinton in the 80s is considered “old school” and the claims are not to be believed.
What difference does any of this make?
(Hmmmm, that phrase sounds vaguely familiar.)
So unlike Cliff Richards, this guy could not get it if really wants.
If you find child porn, its corroborating evidence. It would have to be a remarkable coincidence to have a celebrity accused of child sex assault, and then find child porn on his computer.
A lot of people thought Rolf Harris was innocent, but that went by the wayside when police found child porn on his computer.
Cliff Richard would not surprise me. Britain has already been unmasked as a pedophile haven in terms of its media and celebrity figures.
I heard that he’s basically asexual.
If you never marry, there are always going to be rumors.
This guy should not talk to the police, he should have a lawyer do that.
Prosecuting a crime after so many years....hmmmmm.
The investigations following the Jimmy Saville revelations have turned up a lot of sexual misconduct and crimes against children by adults in the UK.
I hope this allegation turns out to be false and its quite possible that it is, perhaps someone is out to hurt Cliff Richard since his faith is offensive to many in the UK.
I’ll await further developments......
In the 80’s when he was a British teen heartthrob, it would have been impossible to admit to being gay, if he is. And if he is, he deserves credit for not using women and fathering children as a deceitful cover.

What did they expect to find - old incriminating laundry left lying around and unwashed for 30+ years?
1980’s?
Yeah that makes sense and should provide for a solid criminal case.............
Yes, wait and see. I hope for everyone’s sake it is not true.
Thought I recognized the name as a christian artist in the 80’s. And he was. On Spotify, I found ‘better than I know myself’ from ‘wired for sound’ in 1981...liked that song...a long time ago...
and I am back in the 80s...
He could have photos of the kid(s).
Search his home he bought in 2008 for evidence from someone alleging something happened in all places a Billy Graham event in the mid 1980’s.
Spent 5 hours going thru his stuff. 5 hours?
