Swat Team Raids Innocent Woman's Home; Lawsuit Filed
Liveleak ^

Posted on 08/13/2014 8:28:01 AM PDT by Dacula

An elderly woman's home was raided by police after she was suspected of making anonymous online threats against the Evansville police department and Chief Billy Bolin.

The 68-year-old woman, Louise Milan was in the house with her 18 year old adopted daughter when police shattered a glass door and burst in after throwing flash grenades inside.

Police came up empty-handed in the search for evidence about who had made the threatening posts but only after damaging Louise Milan’s house, handcuffing her and her adopted daughter and seizing their computers, according to a lawsuit that has been filed against the city of Evansville.

The FBI later arrested Derrick Murray, a suspected local gang leader who lived nearby in his mother’s house and was using his smartphone to access the Milan's unsecured wireless network.

City attorneys contend that the force used to execute the search warrant, was “objectively reasonable” and that officials are immune from liability.

“Objectively Reasonable” only means that the police decided to do it and the Chief authorized it. Police reason that way so it is reasonable.

Agreed, they should have considered who could have been using the IP address and how. Shoddy work, but then again, look at how higher IQ applicants are filtered out. We get what we vote for.

I agree. The judge is as much to blame for this as the cops.

Is that right? Not hard to believe.

I think cops would be more polite if we outlawed LEO use of certain types of body armor and certain types of firearms.

Did the FBI do it with a swat team and flash bangs?

Scum-sucking, pig-faced ‘swipes ought to face exactly the same charges and sentences I would if I had committed this crime. Until they do, the police will continue to see themselves as our appointed over-lord.

It’s getting near time to start shooting back first.

“objectively reasonable”

WTF?!?! For a verbal threat?
Sue the city into insolvency, then sue each one of the idiots personally.

And I contend that hanging such city attorneys from street lights and then letting the crows feats on their corpses is also “objectively reasonable”.

search for “police reject high iq” without the quotes. 2,760,000 results. It’s the old “over-qualified likely to quit” situation and PD’s just don’t want to make the large training investment for someone who will look for greener pastures.

Did the FBI do it [arrest the gang leader] with a swat team and flash bangs?

That is a GREAT question!

Did they do ANY intelligence gathering prior the raid?

What a bunch of idiots. They need to fire everyone who participated in the raid, then everybody up the chin of command.

I just want to know why the 18 year old had to be repeatedly labeled “adopted daughter”. Once a child is adopted, she becomes “daughter”. Adoption is just a means by which the child joins the family. I wonder if the author uses the term “biological daughter” when reporting other news.

Sheesh.
