Looking for thoughts about the 'sudden' appearance of a cure for Ebola. I think our government has studied Ebola since it first appeared and is keeping it as a weaponized virus. For that to be, a cure, as well as a stable delivery system, must exist. For this to be a potent weapon, the cure must be kept from the public.

An outbreak of Ebola virus erupts (naturally) in Africa. A man, appearing as charity worker, is on site feeding update information to the government. He becomes infected and insists on the cure (that he knows exists) being supplied, perhaps with the threat of informing the world of the cure's existence. The government reluctantly sends over a dose under the cover story of it being untried and only used on monkeys. Then, the patient is brought home to be kept close and quiet. Now the government has to play the Kabuki dance out about the cure is being tested and is okay for general use but with the serum available to everyone, Ebola is no longer useful as a weaponized disease.

Could this be the way this last month's drama played out?

I don’t think so.

According to Big Media the “cure” for Ebola is to kill Capitalism.

why could they just give him the cure and not let anyone know he was given it? Just chalk it up to him being one of the survivors.

If the "cure" is the ZMapp tobacco product, it didn't help the third patient to get a dose. He died.

Where would you test such a serum?

Some ebola variants that affect monkeys, for example, don't seem to affect people (Ebola Reston).

You would need sick people to even test the efficacy of a 'cure', or a vaccine.

Pretty limited opportunities for testing.

Whether there have been efforts to create a cure in case someone uses weaponized filoviruses (Ebola, Marburg) against us I do not pretend to know, but being able to just whip out a cure would mean not only familiarity with a variant which is not the same as previous variants, but have the ability to be certain the serum would work.

I dont see this as all that sudden. Here is a quick general history:

In 1976, Ebola (named after the Ebola River in Zaire) first emerged in Sudan and Zaire. The first outbreak of Ebola (Ebola-Sudan) infected over 284 people, with a mortality rate of 53%. A few months later, the second Ebola virus emerged from Yambuku, Zaire, Ebola-Zaire (EBOZ). EBOZ, with the highest mortality rate of any of the Ebola viruses (88%), infected 318 people. Despite the tremendous effort of experienced and dedicated researchers, Ebola’s natural reservoir was never identified. The third strain of Ebola, Ebola Reston (EBOR), was first identified in 1989 when infected monkeys were imported into Reston, Virginia, from Mindanao in the Philippines. Fortunately, the few people who were infected with EBOR (seroconverted) never developed Ebola hemorrhagic fever (EHF). The last known strain of Ebola, Ebola Cote d’Ivoire (EBO-CI) was discovered in 1994 when a female ethologist performing a necropsy on a dead chimpanzee from the Tai Forest, Cote d’Ivoire, accidentally infected herself during the necropsy.

So research and by inference, working on a cure / vaccine has been happening since at least 1990 and perhaps sooner. So, twenty to twenty-five years a small group of people have been working on a cure in one form or another.

You should read the book “Hot Spot” by Richard Patterson. It goes into a lot of detail about how the ebola virus was discovered and how they work to come up with the “code” to how it destroys cells. It is a fascinating read.

The genetic splicing that goes into the “cure” is complex and interesting. I think they work on this stuff all of the time—they just don’t spend a ton of resources on it because the outbreaks are usually small and therefore, there is no capitalist motivation to fix them.

My guess, and it is only a guess, is that the people working on this “cure” were doing it because the Ebola is just about the hardest virus to crack—if you beat that, the rest are “easy.” Think of code breakers spending their time working on a new way to break the most complex code.

Also, I think it naive to believe that the Army would not be working on a vaccine in their labs as even the simplest defensive measure.

As one observer noted, the Gov’t doesn’t weaponize a viral strain without simultaneously developing a vaccine and/or cure for it. Because....they don’t want to be left without protection for the chosen elites.

However, this strain of Ebola isn’t the weaponized version. They’re still working on that.

Big Pharma wants to sell Ebola Vaccinations to every American citizen down at your local drug store.

To make that happen, they first have to scare us.

Obama will get his cut (and arrange for an Ebola outbreak on US soil; mandatory enforcement; and government payment for the “poor”).

Poison gas was not used during World War 2 (except in the extermination camps.) Have you ever wondered why not? Both sides had it. Both sides produced modern stockpiles and delivery weapons. But neither used it. The use was attendant with numerous problems neither side wanted to deal with. On the battlefield it could kill both sides regardless of who used it. In the enemy’s cities it would result in retaliation in kind. There are similar problems with any bioweapon, but multiplied exponentially. Only somebody who wanted the potential to kill equal numbers of their own people would use bioweapons. When Ebola first appeared Iran sent doctors who took specimens and then went home. They are an apocalyptic culture. Will they use it? Probably. But it’s not that easily weaponized. As it transfers now, by contaminated body fluids, it is hardly a massive menace. Now if they crossed it with an airborne flu, yes, it has the potential to wipe out 80% or so of the world’s populace. So, most likely it hasn’t been weaponized. If it was, then it was done so that a cure could be developed. As for having a cure but not releasing it, unlikely. First, a cure takes lots of research. Papers would be written as you’d have to kill a scientist to keep him from publishing something that could get him a Nobel Prize. Also, it’s expensive to productionize a cure. Generally, you have to build an entire plant. And you’d only do that after the FDA approved the cure, which may take years and billions of dollars. What they’ve got now is a treatment which, apparently, has limitations. (Typically, a treatment must be used within x days of infection or it’s too late.) While I don’t trust anything our present government says, I doubt that if they had a cure they’d keep it secret. The headline would read, “Obama develops cure to Ebola; saves world.”

You are attacking a good Christian doctor and Franklin Graham’s Evangelical Christian organization.

The US Army, CDC, and the DOD, and Christian missionaries have of course always been involved in Ebola breakouts since they first started in 1976, it is part of the medical crisis work that they do.

“”“We had a large footprint in Africa,” Cummings said of the Defense Department’s response to the first Ebola cases reported in 1976 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, formerly Zaire. Since that time, the Defense Department has answered numerous calls for assistance from the World Health Organization (WHO), nongovernmental organizations and ministries of heath and defense, he said.

Defense personnel provide a wide array of support to the Ebola-stricken African nations, from logistical help to guides for clinical management of the virus, Cummings said, adding the U.S service members “bring a level of excellence second to none, working in response to host nations and WHO in the most-affected countries of Sierra Leone and Liberia.”””

As far as the cure suddenly appearing, look at the date.

August 2013, US News and World Report
photo—A medical worker from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention works at a laboratory in Entebbe, Uganda where researchers are working on the Ebola outbreak on Thursday Aug. 2, 2012.

“”U.S. Army medical researchers may have found an emergency treatment for the deadly Ebola virus, which is welcome news to biodefense researchers studying ways in which such hemorrhagic fever viruses jump from non-primate species to human beings and how to treat them.””

NPR, 2013
“”Ebola, your days as one of the world’s scariest diseases may be numbered.

A team of U.S. government researchers has shown that deadly Ebola hemorrhagic fever can be vanquished in monkeys by an experimental drug given up to five days after infection — even when symptoms have already developed.

An antibody cocktail aimed at Ebola’s outer surface rescued three of seven macaques infected with lethal doses of the hemorrhagic virus in the U.S. Army’s high-security labs at Fort Detrick, Md.””

They are talking about MAYBE having a vaccine by next year. IF it works. Flu shots, for example, are a bit of a crap shoot.

The OTHER THING you want, if you weaponize something is an ANTIDOTE. So far, there isn’t one of those either. Those two Americans got something, but they are a long, long way from being out of the woods. I think they are still very much wandering around in the woods.

We study bioweapons because if someone else uses them, we have to be ready. As ACTUAL WEAPONS, they suck for so many different reasons.

With a virus, then you also have to worry about a mutation significant enough to make your vaccine ineffective, but not significant enough to make the virus any less deadly.

I don’t seen anything sudden going on, except for the sudden underreporting. What country wants to announce its off the chain there. The SA and Benin, for example.

My bio-chemist brother owns a lab that manufactures colloidal silver and other colloids of metals. He sent me the link to an article about ebola and a treatment- http://whitewraithe.wordpress.com/2014/08/04/breaking-news-anonymous-doctor-releases-treatment-for-the-ebola-virus/
I have read the article and it seems to have merit. Take a look

Infectious disease is a military problem, since more soldiers are incapacitated or die of disease than from weapons.

as for ebola being a bioweapon of evil America, these types of claims were common and part of the KGB propaganda campaign...and since that time pushed by the left and it's jihadi fellow travelers.e.g. the UK Guardian.

A variation of when the middle ages blamed the Jews for the Black death, even though the Pope pointed out the Jews died too, so it wasn't logical to blame them.

Ebola would make a lousy bioweapon, since the danger to the US could be
HUGE
...
huge...no vaccine, no treatment.
