NASCAR star Tony Stewart hit and killed another driver who was walking on the track in a sprint car race on Saturday night.
The other driver, Kevin Ward Jr., had collided with Stewart on the previous lap, leaving Wards car with a flat tire and pushed into the wall. As officials threw a caution, Ward left his car and began walking down the track gesturing angrily toward Stewart before being clipped and dragged 50 feet by Stewarts car.
Several spectators told Bob Pockrass of The Sporting News that Stewart appeared to throttle his car before colliding with Ward.

Yep thats what happened, but the circular firing squad witch hunters will not be deterred, they have to sacrifice somebody.
Its a Supermoon weekend, people will make emotional decisions that are being unusually and strongly influenced, and the young man made a poor one.
That cannot comprehend the car is wedge shaped, rear tires stick out further, its almost a miracle Tony was even able to make the rear try and skid to the LEFT and AWAY from the other guy, noooooo, they are on a witch hunt and have no idea what these cars can do, they think they can turn equally well left or right. WRONG
But they are right now putting more cotton in their ears and wearing darker glasses.
That's the way it looks to me also. The car swerved AFTER the wheel hit the guy.
Kevin Ward must have had his logic switch in off mode or wanted to play dog by getting out of car and run onto the track things happen when one does stupid.
Two things bother me about this incident:
1. stewart gunned his engine just as he hit the guy.
2. Accident or not, I can’t believe he’s gonna race today, that just doesn’t seem right to me.....just my 2 cent.
The video leaves room for much doubt, likely that driver could not avoid it except by luck.
Darwin award goes to the person who runs out on track, his heat of the moment emotion killed him.
I say you are wrong. When that caution comes out you better be extra cautious, just like pit racing.
Tomnt did not mean to hurt the fella let alone kill him. Tony just let his hot temper get the best of him. Which has happened numerous times with TS.
He wanted to spray some dirt and maybe scare the kid but he screwed up.
Manslaughter
Agreed, i think NASCAR will ask him to stand down, atleast until the investigation is complete.
Looking at it over and over again I don’t think Tony Stewart even saw him until the last minute and then tried to swerve to avoid him. The guy was going to be hit and at the last moment seems to make a little lunge to try and get out of the way. Stewart doesn’t swerve until or accelerate until the guy is hit...like he’s surprised and trying to avoid him.
stewart gunned his engine just as he hit the guy. Only one person knows why he did that, but it sure didn’t look good.
If so...You'd think they told him that Kevin had left his car and was on the track...
What race driver expects another driver to be running around on the track during a race, and then instead of trying to avoid cars, he does the opposite?
If i was sliding up track as expected on dirt, the only way to try to get lower on track would be to gas it and turn wheels toward slide. Does not look good but it is physics.
Note the visibility out of the right side.
Sprint cars are unique in that the throttle is used to steer the cars alot. The tiny tires on the front don't contribute much.
Seriously, the last place anyone needs to be running around is an active racetrack, even under caution. Keep what's left of your car between your ass and the rest of the field and wait for the safety truck.
As for Stewart's actions, if he pimped the throttle passing Ward, with that exposed tire spinning, he may have well drove by and swung a running chainsaw at him.
Sometimes stupid doubles up, and when it does somebody always pays.
Well, this is a PR nightmare for NASCAR regardless of why it happened.
Condolences to the family.
Just can’t feature racing the next day after a fatality.....wow.
Maybe, but it sure don’t look good.
There is a reason people do not walk around race tracks as they are being used. It is a bad idea.
The guy was involved in a dust up on the track. He got out of his disabled vehicle and then he walks out on the track while RACE CARS are still moving on a dirt track? Waving at another car and walking in to its path? Really bad idea. And something NOBODY would have expected. And that is the issue here, the driver did something insanely stupid.
The driver that hit him may have been messing with the driver on the track but the driver on the track should not have been there in the first place.
I’ve raced on dirt track, if you crash you stay put. Heavy metal wins against flesh every time.
And if he slammed the brakes, what control would he have had?
The speculation Stewart intentionally murdered the guy is nuts.
