How long before the IS (ISIS) Caliphate is recognized as a legitimate government? It took ten years or so for negotiations to start with the Taliban. Hamas is a terror group but the US and Israel "negotiates" with them all the time.
When will the Muslims of the world just go ahead and join the group (if you can't beat em, join em)? How long before the left begins protests against bombing or using any other military action against IS?
It will demand and get a permanent place on the security council — wait and see.
Going to be a new member of the Arab League?
If they are Sunnis, not long.
Something like it will happen. Nazi Germany arose the same way. People outside knew what was going on...until it was too late.
Problem here.
ISIS claims to be the new caliphate. Therefore, by definition, it proclaims all other Muslim states to be illegitimate and declares eternal war against them. As well as, obviously, all non-Muslim states.
I don’t see any incentive for a Muslim strongman anywhere else to submit to ISIS.
True, but OTOH the Nazis never proclaimed themselves to be the sole legitimate state on earth, and that they were at eternal war with every other state until it submitted.
The commies did that, but not the Nazis.
Seems like only yesterday ISIS was part of Hillary’s enlightened Arab Spring celebration. Once they kill all their religious, political and ideological enemies, they will institute free and open elections, from which Western values will magically appear.
I expect Obama to give it priority official recognition.
Unless the Muslims of those states see IS as stronger and decide to go “arab spring” on their governments. I see the Muslim mind set as if you shout “Allah Akbar” the loudest, doesn’t mater who you kill while doing it, your the best.
But their goal was domination.
Your last question, “ How long before the left begins protests against bombing or using any other military action against IS?”, is easy to answer. The day a Republican president is inaugurated.
Agreed. But the Nazis never specifically stated that they would continue to fight till they’d overthrown every other government.
In fact, they repeatedly tried to make peace with UK, which Hitler had no desire at all to fight. In the Nazis’ prewar fantasies, Germany would dominate and exploit Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. UK would control the subhumans in the rest of the world. Left unspoken is whether these two imperialisms would eventually clash.
The commies did, and it’s a foundational principle of Islam.
Probably shortly after taking Baghdad or Damascus.
Left unspoken is that this is more or less exactly what jihad meant in the past, for about 1400 years.
The footloose, idealistic and psychopathic young men of Islam attacking everywhere on the borders of Islam. The peoples of India, southern and eastern Europe, Spain, etc. all went through this. Some of them eventually kicked the Muslims out, others were assimilated.
Never gonna happen.
ISIS can’t get along with other Islamic terrorists. They are Sunni arabs so Iran has no use for them. Even al Qaeda rejects them. They aren’t capable of organizing anything more than murder, kidnapping and extortion, the latter two being how they raise money. The people they conquer hate them.
Someone may well organize a Caliphate, but it won’t be ISIS.
I just keep seeing parallels between the rise of Nazi Germany and this group.
Piglousy can’t wait to tell us all about their humanitarian efforts.
Two years.
ISIS will definitely get UN recognition if they kill another 50,000 Christians and Yazidis
