I walked to kindergarten at 6 years old. Two miles, in the snow, uphill both ways.
Ok...letting your 7 year old walk alone may not be the smartest thing to do in this day and age....but why did they arrest her...?
Makes no sense at all...
Maybe a nice talking too about the potential dangers out there...for a young child...
Maybe the police were pisssd there was no dog to shoot...
My walk to school in 1957, when I was in the 2nd grade (7 years old)
OMG....my entire family would be locked up....I used to gas up my mini bike and be gone for hours at a time trail riding at that age...
same here but
going along with the current thinking,
why wasn’t this 8 tr old given the status of an unaccompanied minor and simply reunited with his mother ?
It would be nice if the mother could afford a lawyer to make that exact argument, equal protection under the law and all of that . . .
I don’t think it’s changed as much as what people think...
I think it just gets talked about and publicized at every turn now where before the things were ‘taken care of’ when discovered... both to deal with the perpetrator and save the victim the public shame they often felt.
That and the publication is another way for the overlords to attempt to control our behavior.

She should and she will will win but at a cost which is the point of the whole exercise. She's just another revenue stream in the justice industry.
And if he was stupid enough to call the cops, they'd kick his ass as well for good measure !
I walked a mile to school when I was five.
This story is disgusting.
When I was 8 I was BB gun snipped by the kid up the block. This was the start of The Great Mud Ball War which lasted for over a week.
Bad strategic move, I had cousins who lived next door.
If a public park in his neighborhood isn’t safe for a seven year old to the extent that parents are arrested for neglect, then the “it takes a village” meme is completely out the window.
The City Council should be cited for failing to preserve the safety of residents using public parks in their neighborhood.
Years back, we had a kid in our neighborhood who liked to drive really fast, over 50 down residential streets. One day, while riding my bike, I met up with him at a stop sign. I leaned into his car and told him that he was going to immediately stop driving through my neighborhood at 50 MPH. He very meekly nodded. I looked over at his passenger, whom I had not looked at before...his mom.
She was just a tad upset at junior.
My sister hopped a bus and went into NYC when she was 7.
That was years ago, and my mother found out about it recently. She said my sister should have told her where she was going.
They hung a sign around me saying “Take him, he’s yours!”
Same for me. At 9 my parents let my girlfriend and me take the subway from Queens to Manhattan. No one gave it a second thought. It was a very different world then.
American society has changed for the worse since I was a kid. I was out all day in the Summer, and came home for bathroom and food. I walked to school and everywhere else.
The USA today is a country where the people lack trust. There is no sense of community. It is not “United” at all. It is divided along dozens of lines.
In the words of Oscar Wilde:
“America is the only nation in history which miraculously has gone directly from barbarism to degeneration without the usual interval of civilization.”
This is what happens since libs took over ...I spent a few months in Tokyo and kids as young as five or six were on the subway and street lines by themselves. They had notes on some of them where they had to get off.
