The Constitution is solely about how government functions within the enumerated legislative powers it grants Congress. The Constitution is not about what the people can and cannot do; the Constitution is about what the government can and cannot do.
America’s founders documented their vision for a free people by limiting legislative powers to the Congress. The founders’ words are clear concise proper English grammar. Article 1. Section 1 says that All legislative Powers shall be vested in a Congress. The word “all” means all, not most, and not some; it means all.
The founders’ wisdom limited the government’s powers by specifically enumerating all legislative powers. The congress has all the power of legislation but all legislative power is limited to only the areas enumerated. The complete Article 1. Section 1 - All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.
When the government functions constitutionally, you can always know where they are because the Constitution limits where they are. When the government does not function constitutionally you can never know where they are.
Picture yourself with a pet dog and a fenced in yard. The fence limits where your pet can go. You may not know exactly where your pet is but you do know he is somewhere within the fenced in area of the yard.
Once your pet goes outside the fenced in area you cannot know where he is. Is he one foot outside the fence? Is he 100 feet outside the fence? Is he on the other side of town? Is he in another city? You cannot know how far from the yard he strayed.
It is not different with America’s government. When your government functions within their legislative powers, you can know where they are. When your government functions outside their legislative powers, you can never know where they are. Is your government one foot outside the Constitution? Is your government 100 feet outside the Constitution? Is your government on the other side of town? Is your government in another country?

Government does too much in the “interest” of safety and public welfare. If they’d leave us alone and concentrate on what the Constitution gives them the power to do we would be in a much better shape.
I’ve been telling my kids for years, “Anytime the government tells you something, ask them why.” Never take them at their word. Make them prove they have the power to do it even if it is a good idea.

More accurately, it is what the government must or must not do. For examples, it must secure the states from invasion and it must not infringe on speech or the right to firearms.
As an example of our government “out of control”, the NSA director told us they were not spying on our private communications, a bald lie because they have been been snooping for years, and they sanction infanticide because they say that is protected under a right of privacy which is, however, mentioned nowhere in the Constitution.
So, where is my government? It’s not on my side.
It is doing—and failing to do—what many of the original 13 states feared it might do: abuse its power and become derelict in its duty, the reasons for their balking at ratifying the Constitution.
Power tends to corrupts, absolute power tends to corrupt absolutely; with the IRS, we’re at the latter stage now.
Like the stray, it’s digging in everyone’s garbage.
We have been an (extra-Constitutional) Banana Republic, for some time. Whom do you propose to reign the leviathan back to its proper scope/place?
The People - whom have been bribed w/ ‘freebies’ using their own $$?, or whom have their votes disenfranchised by illegals/dead/ballot stuffing/etc.?
The Courts - whom use the latest tactic of ‘no standing’? Not even bothering to test vs. Constitution, but based upon ‘case law’
The Executive - whom not, by E.O. and fiat decide which, if any, Laws to enforce...if not creating them outright
The Legislature - whom are too busy bloviating to any camera they can find; whom enjoy salary and perks far exceeding most of the private sector they ‘work for’. Nary a peep otherwise.
The police/armed forced - The former acting as the latter, the latter physically/mentally beaten-down and dejected by ridiculous ROE.
Sorry, my g-parents should have taking to the streets to turn back when they (legally) immigrated. 3 generations later, most couldn’t fathom what REAL Freedom/Liberty would entail, nor living with the consequences thereof.

Had I written this and used the fenced yard and dog example, I somehow would have included the questions, "Is he crapping on your neighbor's front yard?", "Is wandering the back alley of the Korean Restaurant downtown?", and "Is he all dog-knotted up inside the Rosenkrantz family's purebred Standard Poodle, FiFi?"
Great analogy. In this case the pet bolted, joined a pack, and became a feral beast.
