Cop Arrests Man, Forced Him to Leave Family Pet on the Side of the Freeway to Die

On July 13, Josie Garcia’s husband was pulled over by Houston PD for failure to use a turn signal.

The routine traffic stop lead to a search and prescription drugs belonging to the passenger were found. Both men were subsequently arrested and the SUV was impounded. Charges against her husband were dropped days later.

Unfortunately, Garcia’s 14 year old chihuahua, Guero, was along for the ride.

As the men were being taken into custody and the SUV towed, Guero was removed from the vehicle and left on the side of Highway 59.

Garcia’s husband plead with the officer to let him call someone to come get the dog or for the officer to call animal control, who’s shelter was only 2 blocks away.

The officer refused, claiming the dog would be fine.

For the next 3 days Garcia put up missing posters and searched for her beloved pet. Eventually, she received a call to let her know where he was.

Guero had been found, dead, on the side of the highway not far from where the men were pulled over. The elderly chihuahua was nearly blind from cataracts and had been hit by oncoming traffic.

“It was a pure dick move by the cop and he should be fired for endangering the public as well as animal abuse. “

He’s obviously too stupid to be a cop or he’s a sociopath. Either way he needs to be removed.

Some facts are missing, here.

That's my guess.

Cops wouldn't leave a dog on the freeway. Somehow the SPCA would get involved.
From the WORST point of view, the dog's presence there might CAUSE an accident.

Here's a thread where a typical "cop shoots dog" would have been preferrable over this.

This is outright animal abuse, he should be fired, stripped of all benefits, and charged the maximum under the law.

Josie Garcia’s husband was pulled over by Houston PD for failure to use a turn signal.

Really? On Highway 59?

Does anybody use their turn signal when changing lanes on 59?

Turning on your turn signal just causes the person in the other lane to speed up. How did this guy get singled out?

Did you read to the end of the paragraph???

Yes, I did.

Charges against her husband were dropped days later.

Yes. I noticed that. So WTF??? Why were charges filed in the first place? Why were they arrested? What were the cops thinking? Enquiring minds ...

Why do you suppose that happened?

I don't know. Were you there? Can you provide any actual information?

you don't leave animals on the side of the highway, period, because they are a f-g traffic hazard.

I refer you again to my post, previous in this thread, to which you responded.

It was a pure dick move by the cop and he should be fired for endangering the public as well as animal abuse.

Possibly.

Wrong.

Cops DID leave a dog on the freeway. That fact is established. Even they don't deny it.

Prescription drugs are supposed to be kept in their original container. If they aren’t then the cops suspect you are trying to traffic them to others.

There are still many facts missing from this story though.

Sorry ...
You responded to my post #2, not my post #12 ... in which I make comments regarding the gross inappropriateness of leaving a dog on the freeway.

Too bad this didn’t happen in Bellaire, a suburb of Houston. The cops there routinely pick up strays in the middle of the night and the next morning they take them to my brothers veterinary clinic where they take care of them until homes can be found. Not all cops are dog haters. This happens about every 1 or 2 months

Cops need to adapt their thinking to reality, in which most folks who take prescription drugs during the day DO NOT carry with them the original containers.

“”Just what the hell has happened to Law Enforcement these days?””

I second the comments here about the cause for arrest to begin with and what’s with the passenger having prescription pills? Is it against the law in TX to not use turn signals?

I’m sorry but the thought occurred to me while reading this that we will not be able to trust or rely on our local law enforcement agencies when the SHTF here in this country. I’ve thought that fearing them would be malarkey but there’s just too much of this going on not to realize that they are not like the rest of us. And I have to say that there are more with mentalities like this than we realize and who are responsible for the elected politicians who will not think twice of relieving us of our rights.

The problem is the preponderance of ex-military men in police departments. Too many view their taxpayer employers as they did the enemies in Iraq. And all the military equipment our police now have reinforces this attitude.

Apologies don’t mean squat. Officers who act this way should be fired within 24 hours of such incidents. Better yet, no former military personnel should be hired until they have been back in civilian life for ten years.

I believe it’s a two major factors are involved:

1. Confirmational bias — Single sourcing news from your preferred ideological news source.

2. Internet providing that preferred ideological news source.

This has probably happened just as often as pre-internet era, we just didn’t know it as stories like these rarely if ever made national news.

So rest assured, as you read this and get enraged, KOS, DU, DB, HuP will probably never see it as they suffer from the same confirmational bias as some of us — include me to. I’ve been guilty.

Interesting, my spell checker turned confirmational into confrontational. New phrase is invented. Confrontational Bias.

True. Many people transfer their pills (when they are on a regimen) into sorters for morning pills and evening pills.
