People out of their cars wondering whats going on, reported Stu Mundel in Sky9.
Reports from the scene said officials were trying to talk a suicidal man out of jumping onto the freeway from an overpass.
The unidentified man was taken into custody around 7:15 p.m., authorities said.
The incident, first reported around 3:30 p.m. occurred in East LA at Olympic.
Right now, the 5 is a parking lot, Mundel reported in the mid-afternoon rush. On the northbound side, people were back up with no option to exit.
Get on the phone and tell everyone you know to avoid the 5, Mundel reported.
The southbound 5 is hit the hardest, Mundel said. There were cars stuck behind a police barricade for hours.
The CHP was trying to aid some of those stuck riders by making U-turns and exiting on the nearby Lorena Avenue off-ramp.
Other freeways have also been affected by motorists being backed up including the 10 eastbound and the 60 in both directions.
By 7:15, scores of vehicles were still stuck, in a group, as the CHP worked at turning them around.
There was no word from the scene when normal operations would continue.
some dip wad wanted to jump off the overpass and the chp shut down not only the 5 but the 710, let the guy jump and be done with it
I get gas just looking at that....lol
Ouch
Duuuuuuuude!!!
Hop on the 5, man ... to East LA. Dinner at El Tepeyac!!! :o)
Or downtown at the original pantry
I still like The pantry for breakfast. 24 hours a day. They say they have no key for the front door. Many employees work 40 years and more.
]Owned for former Mayor Riordan.
Hey, I envy your San Diego life. I love it there. And I begin retirement as soon as i can figure out how to sign up for Medicare!
If you got them “to go” like we used to at Work, your Car never smelled the same.
Yeah, in the giant Turkey roasting pans. :o)
The Pantry is another iconic place to eat.
I worked three blocks away from there back in the 70’s. Ate Breakfast there at least once a week. The Omelets were so big that they would be hanging off the Plate.
Also used to hit the Original Tommy’s on Beverly. Double Cheeseburger with extra Chile, yum. When I worked Midnight Shift, that was Breakfast. Love the Shack...
It’s a wonder I haven’t needed a Heart Transplant yet.
BTW - Anyone remember Coopers Donuts in Downtown L.A.?
I’ve been all over SoCal. We’re looking at water nine blocks from beach.
One thanksgiving eve just after riordan left office, the health dept closed them down. Riordan showed up and they all worked overnight, got clearance and opened for breakfast.
That would result in a full roll needed on the pot the next day....maybe 2. (Depending on how many hi-test adult beverages went down with that monster!)
I'm sure that you mean that was what some of the people stuck in traffic were saying.
Never been to coopers. I took my dates into la side I started driving. Of corse Tommy’s for late night. Stand near the wall and use the shelf
Since
If you ate them in the car it would never smell the same.
The flour tortilla used to make the Hollenbeck is as big as a beach towel.
THAT IS DISGUSTING!
It looks like a bloated fish with mud on it. How could any self respecting Chef send a plate out of the Kitchen that looks like that?
Yet one MORE reason to avoid kookafornia.
