When Paul Reveres alarm, The Redcoats are coming!, was sounded through the countryside centuries ago, it was made to people who were prepared to meet a challenge. Whether the coming challenge in our present day is one of economics or something else, will you be prepared to respond when the alarm is sounded? Here are some ideas you should consider as you get started in your preparations for whatever hard times might await:

Ha! It’s becoming increasingly likely that the Fallout series is to some extent going to be a prophecy, rather than a fantasy. The Mirelurk King, for example, is probably meant to represent Hillary Clinton, since both attack by shrieking and both seem to have an aversion to sunlight. I see liberal politics at work in all of the stories of the non-control Vaults, to be honest.

If anything, we are on the cusp of a long boom that will make the current times seem like hard times. And who will, or should be, leading us into this boom?

There is no realistic scenario which would lead to the total breakdown of "The System" as imagined by survivalists
I wouldn't be so quick to make such a proclamation. I was living in Florida in St. Pete when a series of Hurricanes and Tropical storms passed close by. While they did not hit us directly, the services in our region became sporadic. Suddenly, Gasoline availability started becoming sparse, but still obtainable. Basic necessities from local stores began to become scarce in under a week and it got very interesting at that point in time, which is what finally woke me up to having to be prepared to both defend myself and keep myself alive with by my own means, be it rations or what ever other method. While you may not believe that a sudden loss of basic services in your region unlikely, my experience tells me otherwise, and it is neither far-fetched nor unlikely.
While the services we depend upon in our modern civilization soon stabilized in my area, it does not take much imagination to understand the reality of our fragile distribution system that we all enjoy at the present time.

Have food, H2O filters & purifiers, fire, lights, batteries & recharge, solar, medical & dental, soaps, medical alcohol tinctures & Hydrogen Peroxide, burn kits, sun protection, hats, guns and ammo, alarms, B.O.B’s, hi-tech camp gear (light weight and extremly durable, expensive), high quality knives (folders and full tangs), Sven saws, myriad ways of lighting fire, maps, topos, comms, trail markers, boots, warm/cold weather and work gloves, balicavas, confidence, God and if I can get to my brother or vice a versa, we should be fine.
If we need to repopulate society. ..fine by me.
Climbing gear, fishing gear, hunting skills.
Just need some Beechnut.

I’m sure you’d make better president than all the potential candidates of both parties. But don’t let that go to your head. It’s very rare that a candidate is truly qualified to be president, so your competition is weak.

I bet squirrels that have been dining on fruit make good eating. And if times get REAL rough, folks in India buy rats to eat. And like my brother would say about squirrels when I would cook them: “They’re nothing but rats with furry tails!”

I laid in a lot of food and other supplies. Recently I’ve sold my big suburban house, got rid of the suburban car, bought a truck, and am shopping for rural real estate. Guns, ammo, medical supplies, drugs, power tools and hand tools, hunting equipment...I’m on my way.
