The worst part of the final was the ref. He was horrible. Mark Geiger of the U.S. would have been much better.

Although Germany is socialist, it was better that they won instead of a turd-world “nation” such as Argentina. Yes, I’ve been to both countries and for all of its faults, Germany (especially Munich) is far more civilized than anywhere in Argentina. In fact the only country in South America that’s anywhere near tolerable to me is Chile. And their flag looks almost like our Texas flag! :)

From Drudge:

Germany celebrate World Cup triumph over Argentina as Angela Merkel congratulates country's goal hero 'super' Mario Götze
Germany's Mario Götze scored with a brilliant finish to win the World Cup for Germany tonight, as his team beat Argentina 1-0 in the hotly-contested final.

The Bayern Munich star coolly slotted home to score in the 113th minute, after his team had battled long into extra time in their bid to take home the famous trophy for the fourth time - the first as a unified nation [umm - Germany won WC in 1990].

Midfielder Götze, 22, came on as a substitute to net the winner, controlling the ball with his chest before volleying it into the Argentine goal, making the Germans the first European team to win the title in South America.

Joy, fireworks in Berlin after World Cup thriller
Germany erupted in ecstasy Sunday, with fans dancing the night away, the World Cup final win against Argentina that handed the country its historic fourth title.

Fireworks exploded across Berlin as supporters cheering the 1-0 victory thronged the streets and honking cars snaked their way through crowds, with black, red and gold German flags flapping in the wind.

More than 200,000 fans jumped for joy in the heart of the capital, singing "Oh, it's beautiful!" and chanting "Super Deutschland".

Brazil celebrates rival Argentina's World Cup defeat
Brazilians bitter about their team's disastrous World Cup celebrated Argentina's defeat to Germany in the final Sunday by dancing and launching fireworks, relieved that their arch-rivals failed to triumph on their soil.

In Brasilia and Sao Paulo, fireworks exploded after Mario Goetze scored in extra-time to give the Germans a last-gasp victory at Rio de Janeiro's Maracana Stadium.

At a bar near the stadium, Brazilians chanted "Cry! Cry! Argentina!" in a nod to the song "Don't cry for me Argentina."

Rioting reported in Buenos Aires after Argentina's World Cup final defeat
Riot police fired tear gas and rubber bullets late Sunday to restrain a group of vandals who disturbed a peaceful rally celebrating Argentina's gutsy performance in a 1-0 loss to Germany in the World Cup finals.

Parents with small children could be seen fleeing in fear after police, who initially remained on the sidelines as jubilant fans poured into downtown Buenos Aires, began chasing down the vandals on motorcycles. The youths, many of them with their faces covered and drinking heavily, responded by hurling rocks, destroying store fronts and even breaking into a theater.

Must be partying in Berlin.

that said, this article and its celebritard snob panorama is more boring than a soccer game. The nationalist jingoism is also annoying.

It occurred to me just how tough it is to win a World Cup.

I mean everybody knows how great Germany has been over the years, yet it was 24 years since they won the previous one. Never take them for granted.
