Sorry for his family, but the Ramones were just a useless punk rock band that did nothing of consequence, music wise. They were just loud fast annoying crap. I wanted to plug my ears every time they came on the radio. I prefer many other bands over them in the '80's, even the one hit wonders who actually wrote melodic rock.

The Ramones and Sex Pistols sucked.

One of the last times my stepdaughter rode in my car before she passed away, we were jokingly singing along to “I Wanna Be Sedated”.

I’m old enough to have referred to The Ramones et al as “punks” when it was still a term of derision among musicians. At the time I was playing ProgRock and had no use for the noise and anger of that form of “music”.
Over the years, I came to a greater appreciation of the genre and now know that The Ramones were, indeed, ground-breaking in their way. I still do not prefer to listen to very much if any punk music and still consider it to be crude and unfocused.
Rest In Peace, Tommy Ramone. You need it!

My husband and I were singing along to “Blitzkrieg Bop” a few days ago. Our youngest was amazed that Mommy & Daddy knew of such things,

Amazing talents who will always be missed.

I saw the Ramones as the warmup act for Patti Smith back in 78 or so.

Lots of fun.

I can’t think of a single song by the Ramones. This is either because they are never played on the stations I listen to, or because I am simply horrible when it comes to remember group and song names.

I can go to youtube to see which it is. I love youtube!

RIP, TR.

Seemed like a nice guy.

Three of them died of cancer. Odd.

"Do You Remember Rock 'n' Roll Radio?"

One of my all-time favorite songs.

RIP, Tommy. Loved the Ramones, a great live band. BTW, my musical tastes run the gamut, from classical to reggae and jazz.

Love the Ramones. Missed a chance to see them in concert at the Aragon "brawlroom" in Chicago in 1988, but had to work. One of my biggest regrets was not seeing them in concert.

Also, Johnny was one of the biggest conservatives in music, the classic picture of him wearing a kill a commie for mommie shirt is legend.

Just gotta say RIP Tommy. Thanks for the music and entertainment. And many thanks for helping me annoy classmates and neighbors. Three chords loud and fast. the side of the record is done before the cops show up on a noise complaint!

Although I realize this thread is about the passing of Tommy Ramone, I can't mourn his death without thinking about the Johnny. Here's a really good article by Johnny that gives insight Tommy, Dee Dee, and the Ramones:

And just for fun:

Saw them twice in 79 but Tommy was no longer the drummer. He was replaced by Marky Ramone. Those shows are the greatest shows I have ever seen. The atmosphere and sound and pace of them made them unforgettable. In a small club packed to the rafters the energy level was right off the charts. They had already recorded 4 albums so they had lots of material to draw on by then. Rocket to Russia IMHO is one the best albums of all time. The anthemic Sheena is a punk Rocker to me said it all.
