The Remington Arms Co. has reached a nationwide settlement of claims that most of its Model 700 bolt-action hunting rifles have a defective trigger mechanism — a settlement likely to include the recall of millions of the popular firearm.
Attorneys for Remington and the plaintiffs in the class-action lawsuit against the company did not respond Monday to requests for comment on a “notice of settlement” filed last week in federal court in Missouri.
Yet Richard Barber, a Montana man who’s been saying for a dozen years that many of the Model 700 are defective and should be recalled, indicated Monday that a recall is part of the settlement.

Having observed the Fudds in Colorado all my life I know the hunters who shoot maybe 10 rounds a year far outnumber the real shooters who hunt. You can't fix stupid.
BTW, Remington trying to weasel out of admitting this known-for-years flaw, failing to address it squarely, and fixing it, is a disgrace. They'll fry for it. Deserve to.
In regard to that Mauser, I have been shooting a model 1896 6.5 X 55 Swedish Mauser in the field in for 5 decades. I bought it mail order for $40! (Nowadays selling for many hundreds!)
I replaced my Remington trigger with a Timney. I’m not mechanically inclined but the installation was easy.
Also replaced the stock with a Manners mini-chassis.
Agreed. Given the way the quality of other brands (especially Marlin) has plummeted since being merged with Remington's production, I'd be wary of letting them touch anything that I could so easily deal with.

An old gun guy in my home town spent two hours talking me into buying my first Savage .308. I REALLY wanted a Rem 700, but this gentleman (who knew me well) kept putting the 110 in my hand and telling me that I wouldn’t regret it
Almost 15 years on, and he was right. The barrel is starting to get to the point where I might have to look at a replacement, but it shot better groups out of the box than many tuned rifles do after a few thousand dollars.
I second that emotion. I have a Savage model 10 in .223. The rifle shoots better than I am normally capable. If I'm having a good day I can sometimes do same hole at 100 yds. It is my primary prairie dog gun. Routinely one shot one kill at 300 to 400 yards. Longest shot ever was 540yds. It took two shots but that was with a 55gr VMax Hornady Tap.

Thank you. I’m a little disappointed that Freeper’s didn’t fill this thread to overflowing with Rem 700 photos. I guess it’s just another sign of constrained we are by living in under the Obama regime.

If you had your choice would you go for the .300 Win Mag, the .308 Win, or the .338 Lapua?
if you don’t reload, .308.
cheapest and most widely available.
.338 expensive and harder to find, but best long range of the 3.
What about reloading .338?
like I say, if you reload, .338 is a good choice.
if you’re buying only factory loads, not so much.
