Costco Relents After Thousands Protest Decision to Pull D'Souza Book

Thousands of Costco shoppers took to the wholesaler's Facebook page threatening to drop their store memberships after the retailer pulled copies of Dinesh D'Souza's newest anti-Obama book from its shelves, but a company official insists the decision was financial, not political.

And the reaction got almost immediate results as the company announced it would put D'Souza's book, "America: Imagine a World Without Her," back on its shelves, despite, what it says are poor sales.

"Costco is not a book store. Our book shelf space is very limited," read a statement posted shortly after 8 p.m. on Tuesday. "We exercise discipline in the best utilization of that limited space based solely on what our members are buying. We can't carry every title that our members are interested in reading. We are constantly monitoring book sales, and make decisions to pull books off the shelves frequently based on sales volume to make room for other titles. Politics or controversy over content do not influence our decisions."

The statement, signed by "Dave," went on to say the movie had renewed interest in the book causing "brisk sales at locations still in stock."

"Therefore, we have made the decision to reorder the book," added Dave.

Oh, horsepoop; they kept Hillary’a book on the shelves. And why would the CEO make the original announcement in the first place? Of course it was a political statement.

Hey, Costco, don’t pee on my leg then tell me it’s raining.

“I went to Amazon & found I could buy everything there that I have been buying from Costco, with more selection and I don’t have waste time & gas going to Costco.”

Ping!

will be interesting to see Costco’s stock tomorrow on Wall Street. Might see a lot of downward action of people selling shares as well as cancelling memberships. Maybe a great time to short this pig.

Not one penny of mine will flow into Costco’s account. Embrace the suck, Costco.

I believe them, because they only carry about 200 books at any time, that’s how they can keep prices lower by buying fewer books but in bulk.

EXCEPT it doesn’t explain why they had Clinton’s book so prominent when it is hardly selling, unless they made the mistake of paying up front for those or something, which not book-buyer ever does.

market forces do work

No, market forces did not work. If they did, people would have simply bought the book from Amazon or another retailer, and not shopped at Costco.

Conservatives acted just like the leftists that we're supposed to oppose.

BTW, I'm not a Costco fan, I don't have a membership, and would never set a dead foot in their store.

Costco is run by ardent leftists. That is a well known fact.

Yep.

I guess I’m one of the few who didn’t know that. But now that I do, I will be acting accordingly.

Costco, try this: Buy America, get Hard Choices for free. Something to read and something to help start next winter's fires.

greatly increased sales (market forces) have pushed D'Souza's book to NUMBER ONE on Amazon's Top 100 Best Seller List.

so, respectfully, market forces do work.

I was at Costco today. There were three stacks of H. Clinton’s book (untouched) prominently displayed on the corner of the book table near the main aisle.

I was in Costco yesterday and Hillary’s #76 was still displayed. Why?

People should drop Costco memberships just fro their being idiots.

I never got the wholesale shopping clubs in the first place.

I am a serious cheapskate and comparative shopper and have found time and time again that most of the products, though in larger containers are actually more expensive by the weight than they are at general department and grocery stores. Particularly when you add in the cost of membership.

I always feel like I am being scammed a little. I have been to both Costco and Sam’s and have scene little to nothing that can not be had at other places for as low or even lower prices.

I could be wrong, I just don’t see the need for a #10 can of Beef-A-Roni.

dont know if you ever watched "Seinfeld". there was an episode where Kramer bought huge cans of Beef a roni from a warehouse buying store and was feeding a lot of it to a horse. it was really funny as you can imagine what the result of that was.

...”I cancelled membership and also told them no more communication from them via snail mail or e-mail. I will not renew the membership.”...

Anyone who loves this country and wants her to survive should do what you have done. The political alliance between a government and corporations is called “fascism,” and it has brought great suffering to people in past history. We are through with Costco, too. They may put this book back on the shelf, but they will continue to support anti- American policies with their political contributions. We now know who they are.

I wonder how Hillary’s book is faring by comparison.

I recommend going with the most helpful favorable review, as picked out by Jeff's computers (I bet he hates it when that happens!). Of course, you could also go with the most helpful critical review. But what difference does it make?
