Thousands of Costco shoppers took to the wholesaler's Facebook page threatening to drop their store memberships after the retailer pulled copies of Dinesh D'Souza's newest anti-Obama book from its shelves, but a company official insists the decision was financial, not political.
And the reaction got almost immediate results as the company announced it would put D'Souza's book, "America: Imagine a World Without Her," back on its shelves, despite, what it says are poor sales.
"Costco is not a book store. Our book shelf space is very limited," read a statement posted shortly after 8 p.m. on Tuesday. "We exercise discipline in the best utilization of that limited space based solely on what our members are buying. We can't carry every title that our members are interested in reading. We are constantly monitoring book sales, and make decisions to pull books off the shelves frequently based on sales volume to make room for other titles. Politics or controversy over content do not influence our decisions."
The statement, signed by "Dave," went on to say the movie had renewed interest in the book causing "brisk sales at locations still in stock."
"Therefore, we have made the decision to reorder the book," added Dave.

Probably a bit late now.
Lies. Real statement: “We are intolerant liberals and we hate allowing contrary thoughts. Also we curry favor with Obama this way. But we will have to put the Damn book back.”
My wife called and told them in no uncertain terms how she felt about them pulling the book. Lady said she was told to put it back on the shelves.
They will put a token amount of these books back on the shelves and “quickly sell out” and slowly and quietly remove all copies.
“market forces do work.”
if so, costco should pull the plug on the badly selling hillary book.
They pulled D’Sousza’s book. Now here’s a twisty little issue - are they stocking Her Thighness’ book even though it’s not selling worth an Obama?
If D’Souza was a toe-sucking, commie ‘RAT, Costco would be called “racist” for doing this.
Yep. Just lie Craxker Barrel with Duck Commander... they dont have his hat anymore.
I wonder how Hillary’s book is faring by comparison.
I cancelled membership and also told them no more communication from them via snail mail or e-mail. I will not renew the membership.
They seemed to have no problem stocking Hillarys book and holding book signings
they carry plenty of crap for months and months and months....not buying it...
Here is a test I will witness for myself. Is there equal amount of space given to Dinesh D’Souza’s book as Hillary’s book is given at Costco stores? I’m planning on going tomorrow and will be pissed if I don’t see a trace of D’Souza’s book “America” there.
The market is the most democratic institution ever created- one dollar, one vote.
Costco is run by ardent leftists. That is a well known fact.
Mentioned on a previous thread on this topic, people are buying the book on Amazon and mentioning their distaste for Costco in the review section.
I went to Amazon & found I could buy everything there that I have been buying from Costco, with more selection and I don’t have waste time & gas going to Costco.
... And Hillary’s book signing at costco in northern va bombed.... Photos were just camera angles. I know the store; costco does not own the property and it is $20 if you park more than 2 hours. Always a big line to get in the store
BTW, I already have (and recommend to all here) D'Souza's book (Kindle version in my case), and I'll be sure to go see the film, as well.
And only slightly related, I saw Mrs. Clinton's (ghost writer's) book on display at Sam's Club. They had books displayed on every level of the shelf, and each section of books pushed out to the very edge of the shelf. In other words, not one had been removed and bought.
