Nome is used to rowdy residents, but some relatively new transplants are making a real nuisance of themselves -- although unlike the colorful characters of the early 20th century gold rush days, these visitors have four legs, not two.
Musk oxen are wandering into the city on the Seward Peninsula, and despite loud noises, water hoses and even a blow-up bear coated in ursine urine, they don't want to leave.

I slept 13 and a half hours, last night. I still didn’t want to get up, but I need to get something done today. My living room still looks trashed, so I need to concentrate on the mess.
In the meantime, I think I’ll make some coffee this morning. What a change. I can’t recall my last cup...maybe 10 days ago.
Busdaddy got the security system put in yesterday, and will get it activated on Monday. At least he will be able to breathe easier. Now all he has to do is find a place to live.
I knew that “thursdak” was either a typo or another planet somewhere.
With Darks it could be either one. But it still should have been capitalized.
I vote for Thursdak being a planet.
While the large planet is relatively cold, being warmed only by the decay of radioactive material in its core, the moon Thursdak is heated by tidal friction as it orbits the greater world.
This tidal friction typically manifests itself in rather continuous lightning pulses in the deep atmosphere, which functions as a source of energy for the "plant" life that grows there.
Although the atmosphere is deep and full of water vapor, the surface gravity on Thursdak is very moderate, only about seventy-five percent of Earth's gravity.
Thursdak is metal-poor, but the ecology has managed to spread all over the globe, making it unusual for a "planet" in that it has the same kind of weather from pole to pole.
Naturally, it is tidally locked, but that hardly matters, as nothing is visible through the thick and turbulent atmosphere. A drizzly rain is almost constant, but occasional dry spells sometimes migrate around.
The terrain is very difficult to traverse, being cut and channeled into islands of rocky spires with a form of glowing life inhabiting the upper parts of the spires. They somehow absorb the frequent lightning strikes and use that energy to re-radiate and proliferate. These provide what light there is below, looking remarkably like the lights of skyscrapers illuminating the streets and alleys of a city.
Many years ago, when the first intelligent spacefarers arrived to seek shelter and perhaps colonize it, they built stone-arch bridges and causeways to link together a significant area for trade and development. But naturally, very little trade actually occurs, as the planet tends to wander and be lost to "normal" space traffic.
It tends to attract a quiet, introverted type of individual; those seeking shelter from past indiscretions, or who wish to ply their trade catering to such. If there were ever a world composed exclusively of back alleys, this is the place.
And yet is has its charms, if not outright attractions. Among other things, you can acquire some unusual and interesting pets on Thursdak.
The natural home of Blgthrgths.
Sounds like a fine place for a visit by the Undead...
Knuckles is scared of them too
“Just be mindful of the rugs.”
The warning seemed odd, why would one need to be mindful of the ru-
The shrieking and scurrying was answer enough.
The offended rug scrambling up the offending leg was even better.
“I told you, be mindful of the rugs.”
I had a dream about Xagthrath (sp) night before last.
So’s Crowbar.
Hi. How’s your back?
Had a mental runthrough of just how bad a nanite plague could be.
Especially if the nanites were messed with so that instead of increasing in intelligence with additional nanite population, they actually degraded somewhat.
One would end up battling technologically advanced “stupid”.
Darks. Those are called "Democraps."
Yes.
That was the originating location.
I knew you would have the answer! LOL!
The nanites Soames is infected with identify as “Self”, the plaguites identify as “US!”
“Self” seeks to find the rest of itself, explore, and learn.
“US!” seeks to infest, control, dominate, consume.
Should seem familiar.
Know how to get a unique rabbit?
You need to neek up on him.
Know how to get another unique rabbit?

It was a five count countdown, the bridge crew sat tensely in their seats, the battle would be joined immediately upon exit from N-Space.
Bradamante slammed back into reality directly next to an enemy cruiser, weaponfire immediately received and returned.
“Good to see you, welcome to the party!” it was a poor joke from Theta Kappa, Erin Ellison, but one took humor where one could these days.
“Popping party favors, save something passably drinkable for me please?” Soames joked back.
Scans showed that Ellisons ride was nearly finished, she’d need to think about leaving the fight or abandoning ship soon.
“Drones away.”
Feels pretty good. Maybe it was just a cramp.
