Bike Ping

After the Paris shootings; I wonder what kind of talks are going on about security for this year's tour and whether any special route alterations are being planned.

I’ve been so busy I hadn’t even thought about it. Honestly, I thought there would be trouble last year. It’s coming, but when? And what will the response be?

It wasn’t that many years ago that they were fearing trouble in the Basque region.

This thought has occurred to me numerous times although if they can pull off the Tour of Dubai without incident it gives me hope that the TDF can do the same. It sure must be a tempting target though with basically a world wide audience and a huge route that would be almost impossible to secure fully. When I stop to think about all the caravans parked along some of the climbs it kind of sends a chill down my spine to consider the terrible possibilities.

On a side note, I was planning on going to see it this year with Trek Travel. Put down 2K to reserve a spot for my self and my better half. They came out with the pricing and for almost all of the climbing stages were asking north of 9k per person. That does not include airfare. I was thinking 16K and could almost justify it as a once in a lifetime trip but 20K? Holy cow... couldn’t wrap my mind around it.

To be fair to Trek Travel, they returned my deposit without a problem.
