Distinctive aspects of the race
Beyond the borders After taking off from the United Kingdom for a 20th Grand Départ abroad, the Tour de France will also go through Belgium and Spain.
A taste of Paris-Roubaix Before crossing the finishing line of the fifth stage in Arenberg Porte du Hainaut, the riders will have covered 15.4 kilometres of cobbled-stone sectors that are on the course of the Queen of Classics every spring.
Is that a typo or are we a year late?
Yes, fine,, but can they dribble a soccer ball on their head while peddling up the Pyrenees in a cold rain?
Beats WC. Jmo
After a scare from PeteB570, I am on track to get the FR peloton rolling. Looking back, the history of the Tour is something remarkable indeed.
Fixed gears, coats and ties WHOLLY KRAP. These guys were either tough as nails or crazy as peach orchard boars.
Looking forward, this year has enough twists and nuances to make everyone sit up and take notice.
So fill your water bottle, strap on your helmet and join us for 21 days of cycling super bowl in a row.
And a test of performance lab against performance lab.
... men with masking agents against testing.
Really? And I thought it was more a test of doped men trying to hide their doping techniques and seeing who was the best at it.
We have idiots practising for that all year ‘round here in Tucson. They are a hazard to drivers and think they own the G..damn roads! They crowd the edges of the bike lanes and dare you to hit them. Like the nasty nanny they seem to be looking for a way to hit it big with a lawsuit.
I’m not a bicycle guy but I don’t miss this race - the coverage is better every year and these guys are tremendous athletes. It’s almost as good as the Isle of Man TT.
Leaders will look to riding the shoulders if possible but the Peloton may not have that ability. When the road wins;
Road rash to the MAX!
Here is a cute story since we are still waiting for the Tour to begin. A couple I ride with went to the final stage of the Tour of California this year. After the race they encountered Jens Voigt sitting on a curb being interviewed. They said the interviewer asked him something that made him mad, and one of the things he replied was, “That would be like telling Obama his health care thing is good.” The quote is the way it was explained to me. Anyway, the interviewer was escorted away, and they walked up to say hi. Voigt told them he would autograph anything they had, just don’t ask him to stand up. They didn’t have anything to offer, so they asked him to sign their one-year-old’s shirt. Voigt jumped up, signed the shirt, then spent a few moments playing with the child. I don’t think that kid will ever wear that shirt again.
I like both soccer and cycling, so this summer is the best in a long time for me.
Now if only my Texas Rangers would play better baseball ......
I’m looking forward to the Yorkshire scenery.
Thank you for the TDF ping, FRiend! Looking forward to this year’s Tour. Happy Fourth of July to you and yours...
Perhaps you could explain to me, if you would be so kind, how it is that Kittel from Germany, who has won 3 of the first 4 stages is not the Yellow jersey leader? In fact he is not even in the top 15 of the Yellow standings.
I thought best time determines Yellow jersey leaders.
Was Kittel that slow in the other stage that he is not on the leader board, or is some other calculation involved?
Thanks for your time
