He’s looking a little weak on his current hill...

A couple of reruns on tv later on today if anyone missed the first airing.

We missed the first couple of hours, so will definitely watch the re-plays. The scenery is beautiful today, but the roads look a little scary, esp. where there are such huge crowds.

Still haven’t caught up on all the drama and who’s in and out this year, was hoping a friend’s son-in-law would be picked up by a team, but I don’t see him on the teams list.

Just after I posted that, they explained that his aim was the KOM Jersey. Mission accomplished.

I was pulling for Cavendish ...home town and all that. It was too bad to see him go down like that. "Hitting the floor", as Phil Liggett says.

The replay didn't show any fouls that I could see. I hope he can come back.

Liked the preview show .

Will be interesting duel between Froome, Contador...

Agree on Cavendish. Would have been a nice win for him / his mom.

It looks like Cavendish did it to himself; put his head and shoulder down to make space for his sprint.

"Would have been a nice win for him / his mom."

I like the whole spirit and country and pride thing. With soooo many people along the course and at the finish, the Royals and the PM being there too; it just seemed like destiny. I know he's really down about it all.

For sure everyone watching got a taste of how tough this sport can be.

My opinion based on watching the first stage today is that Mark Cavendish has broken his collarbone at the sprint finish. He will be done with the Tour de France for this year.

I hope you’re wrong, but the crash looked bad. I plan to watch for news alerts later after some errands.

FROM YAHOO NEWS:

" Mark Cavendish's Tour De France could be in doubt after he suffered a heavy fall in the first stage of the race, which began today in Yorkshire.

The Manx rider collided with Australian Simon Gerrans in the final 500 metres but eventually cycled painfully across the line clutching his midrift.

The 29-year-old has been taken to hospital to check the extent of his injuries."

Looked to me like a shoulder or upper arm area injury.
Apparently not a broken collar bone.

I hope it wasn’t ribs. I’ve been there and it makes everything painful, even sleeping.

I thought Jens had planned to retire after the USA Pro Challenge last year. Good to see he's still going.

Pretty bad crash. I've had three major crashes, and yes, one broken collarbone. Not fun. Hope Cavendish is okay.

British sprint ace Mark Cavendish suffered a dislocated collarbone after crashing during
the opening stage of the Tour de France on Saturday.

......

He was taken to hospital by ambulance, after which Tour organisers released a brief
medical bulletin stating he had suffered a “trauma” to his “right shoulder” before
stipulating that “X-rays and an ultrasound” had shown he had an “acromioclavicular separation”.
