Conservative columnist Ann Coulter has been shown a red card for her controversial comments criticizing the World Cup and calling soccer a girls’ game.
On the eve of the United States game against Belgium, Coulter has been blasted by fellow conservatives who have scoffed at her claim that "any growing interest in soccer can only be a sign of the nation’s moral decay," Politico reported.
On Fox & Friends, host Brian Kilmeade attacked Coulter, saying, "I will outline what she said and try to find anything factual in it. That will be an interesting little exercise."
And Fox News host Shep Smith said sarcastically, "I'm told it's a sign of moral decay. It's not."
Although millions of Americans are watching every match in the tournament being held in Brazil, especially the U.S. team, Coulter suggested that only Americans of Hispanic descent are viewing the games.

Notice, she is beating up on soccer. Okay, fine, I don’t like it either. But are there not MORE IMPORTANT things to be attacked, Ann??? How about the voter fraud in Mississippi?!?!

Most things in our current society are signs of moral decay. Watching a bunch of guys in shorts kicking a ball up and down a field is meaningful how? Just another symptom of an entertainment-based culture.
Once again, the Right seems to be missing the point here. The World Cup should be more than just “dissed” but boycotted for being held in a country that went through its streets and did away with its street children to make Rio look better in preparation for the games.

I saw the players limbering up today and I thought I was watching the first act of “A Chorus Line.” I’ll stick to baseball.

I'm not as gaga over Ann as I used to be (not at all gaga, really) but she is still entertaining - and nobody skewers the libs quite like her (unless your name is Mark Steyn)

Not saying that she secretly LIKES soccer, mind you, but the entire tone of the piece is tongue in cheek, IMO.

That is how I read it, part of the problem today with this country is that peopel take sports too seriously and the loss of their freedoms not seriously enough...
Ann Coulter is only looking to draw attention to herself. Whenever she is on tv, I change the channel.

If people are talking about Ann, Ann is happy.
Soccer is like Harry Potter. If you don’t know or care that much about either, you can put them down as signs of decadence and blame them for a lot. But then there are people who are really into soccer or Harry Potter who’ll take you on and make things hot for you. Eventually, a tipping point is reached where enough people have grown up with something like that, and the old attacks — even if they’re valid — don’t get much of a hearing anymore.
Whatever, the US just lost to Belgium 2-1 and are out of the World Cup. So, interest is soccer around the US will plummet once more until the next WC.
The international spectacle and the US as an improving underdog generates a fair amount of interest during the WC, but now it’s time to get back to off-season football and baseball.
Ann Coulter is a bomb thrower (AKA Troll).
