Hate to say this but one of the quiet things going on in New Mexico is an enormous fracking effort. East part of the state. No idea if near there.

Definitely a red herring - in SE NM we have been disposing of oil field salt water in deep injection wells for over 60 years with no earthquake problems. Fracking in horizontal formations is relatively new but fracking of vertical oil-bearing formations has been a part of oil well development for over 50 years.

Having said that, in some areas of the country that do not have the type of formations we have here, disposal of large volumes of water under high pressure in injection wells might cause a problem. That is where consultation with structural geologists and seismologists would be useful.
