Obama: Boehner’s Lawsuit Against Me Is ‘A Stunt’

During an interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Friday, President Obama pushed back against House Speaker John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) announcement that he would file a lawsuit against him, saying that the move amounted to little more than “a stunt.”

“The suit is a stunt…what I’ve told Speaker Boehner directly is: ‘if you’re really concerned about me taking too many executive actions, why don’t you try and get something done through Congress?’”

Obama went on to slam the House Speaker for his inaction on immigration reform, saying that its outrageous that Boehner squawks every time he acts through executive orders because Boehner refuses to act on a bipartisan Senate bill that was passed last year.

“I’m not going to apologize for trying to do something while they’re doing nothing,” Obama said.

I don’t know many FR posters I saw yesterday saying that this was just a “stunt.” Bammy just has to read FR to know the best way to attack.

Of course it is a stunt. A suit couldn't possibly be adjudicated in the time remaining in Obama's term. But maybe the mainstream media will talk about what Obama has done. This could be a way to keep Obama from doing more stupid stuff.

Anything that calls attention to what he’s doing is not a worthless “stunt.” The only thing that seems to attract any media attention now is legal action, since it’s clear that Obama opponents (from the most conservative to the most liberal) can say what they want, and the media simply ignores it. But something concrete like a lawsuit might have more traction.

Civil suits don’t get much attention, but if this suit is accepted, it will be the first time that anybody is granted standing to challenge Obama, so even if it doesn’t get adjudicated, it will mean that the problem is acknowledged.

I honestly don’t know what else could be done. The pitchforks and torches meme is cute and lets people vent and makes them feel good, but realistically speaking, that’s another thing that’s not going to happen.
