She may be an A-list movie star, but Keira Knightley gives herself an annual allowance of only $50,000 to live on.
“It’s something around that,” the 29-year-old British actress told Glamour’s July issue. “I mean, if I want or need something that goes over that, I get it, but, yes, around that.”

“I think living an [expensive] lifestyle means you can’t hang out with people who don’t live that lifestyle,” Knightley told the magazine. “It alienates you. Some of my best, most hilarious times have been in the least luxurious places.”
Knightley has already shown the world her thrifty side, when she repurposed a favorite Chanel dress to wear for her wedding to rocker James Righton last year.

I’ve often thought that if by some twist of fate I became a multi-millionaire, I’d put myself on an ‘allowance’ of about the same amount.
Invest the rest, and avoid foolish spending, though I admit, I’d be highly tempted to buy a Maserati Quattroporte; I’ve always liked the looks of them, though I confess I have no idea as to their reliability. :D
So that’s why she’s so skinny. Not enough money in the budget to keep her pantry stocked, I guess.
I find Canadians are even worse. Perhaps its the old Scots who settled the country....

When the public records of Zooey Daschanel’s divorce were uncovered, it showed very thrifty spending habits for her as well.
I respect and admire people who have foresight to realize that saving and planning are important even when you could live a very luxurious life.
She controls her money, it doesn’t control her.

One has to like her for that attitude but be careful... it will suck you in slowly.
Some actors, even wealthy ones, worry that they’re not going to get any more roles and their income will dry up. And their worst nightmare is having to get a regular job and mingle with the rest of society as a failure. It’s a common malady amongst North Europeans.
Just an allowance. I wonder what it covers. Food, shelter, utilities, clothes, domestic help, travel, insurance, etc.?

Uh huh. She and Hillary could hit some rummage sales together, maybe drop in at the thrift shop or pick up some groceries at the day-old store.
Apparently a chain smoker, so that takes a chunk out of it.
