It seems the Department of Homeland Security doesn't know how many stars and stripes there are on the American flag.
A DHS press release, dated June 20, commemorated the June 17th naturalization of 15 new US citizens, noting the "15 stars and stripes" on the U.S. flag. The problem is that the American Flag doesn't have 15 stars and stripes; it has had 13 stripes since the Act of April 4, 1818, was signed by President James Monroe, and 50 stars since 1960, after Hawaii became a state the year before.
"These 15 candidates, symbolically representing the 15 stars and stripes on our Nation's flag, hailed from Australia, Canada, El Salvador, Greece, Guatemala, India, Iraq, Italy, Kenya, Lithuania, Mexico, the Philippines, Romania, Sierra Leone and South Korea," the press release said.

Dude, where's my history?
One star and stripe for each of the 48 states./s
I thought there were 53 stars, one for each of the states that Obama visited.
I thought he said 57?
Why exactly would it? The DHS is the epitome of Obama’s “...a civilian force, as equally well funded and equipped as the DoD [to do my bidding]...”
It protects and PROJECTS Obama. It has no allegiance to traditional America.
The ‘15’ error is a disgrace, but even more disgraceful is that during the ceremony, another 15 HUNDRED or so entered illegally.
Australia...Beer
Canada...Beer
El Salvador...MS-13
Greece...THIS IS SPARTA!!!
Guatemala...Jungle, drugs, maybe beer
India...convenience store clerks

Italy...PIZZA!!!
Kenya...”My, friend...Come see my shop, what the heck!” (the only words of English those flea market jockeys knew...;-) )
Lithuania...Beer
Mexico...Beer, beans and endless taco buffets
Philippines...Beer, jungle, night life for those so inclined

See, if you just get around and soak up the beer, in most places, you learn a whole heck of a lot...
Just my dos centavos...
Indeed this is a disgrace and is emblematic of how far we have decended into the inferno. We are on level 8 or 9 now I think and the slide is increasing in speed.
Well at least they didn’t claim it was one crescent and one star.
” The problem is that the American Flag doesn’t have 15 stars and stripes; it has had 13 stripes since the Act of April 4, 1818,”
Well technically it did at one time have 15 stars and stripes before being reduced back to 13 stripes. So they do get partial credit.
Not knowing 13 stripes is somewhat forgivable. It’s at least close and most Americans probably don’t know. But the stars! Not even close. Have Americans become that dumbed down?
Well, it did at one time have 15 stars and stripes. In fact the flag that flew over Fort McHenry to inspire Francis Scott Key to write the national anthem contained 15 stars and stripes. I believe that original flag is at one of the smithsonians...
History and reality is what we say it is /s
It did at one time. They used to add a star and a stripe. However it was clear that would be unwieldy after a while.
Of course I doubt the idiot who wrote the release knew that.
Sierra Leone doesn’t have tigers, AFAIK. You sure you’re not confusing it with somewhere else?
Well, his actual words were this: "It is wonderful to be back in Oregon," Obama said. "Over the last 15 months, weve traveled to every corner of the United States. Ive now been in 57 states? I think one left to go. Alaska and Hawaii, I was not allowed to go to even though I really wanted to visit, but my staff would not justify it."
He said 57 with 1 or 2 more to go, so he thought there were at least 58.
He only really knows about the red flag with one hammer and one sickly.
Sure, I tend to confuse Tigers with Beer on occasion...;-)
They might have a zoo, but then again...
