Have you watched Doomsday Preppers? Man, those people are crazy!
Weve got this neighbor down the street whos prepping for the end of the world. What a weirdo!
Weve all heard these comments (or similar ones). As for the wife and me, when friends, delivery men, in-laws, out-laws, offspring, or third cousins (who only show when they need something) come by the house, we dont want them thinking were crazier than we are. Most importantly, we dont want them knowing were prepping. For obvious security reasons, we dont want those cousins to be the first at our doorstep when SHTF. So, how do we prepare without looking the part?
The wife and I are blessed to live in a good home on a remote farm in eastern Tennessee with plenty of resources at hand good garden space, open fields in front, timber around, plenty of storage space, and a good defensible arrangement. Were fortunate to keep most of our food stored in sheds and have a dry, cool basement to store food, ammo, medicine, and whatever else we need. Everything is stored in dusty old boxes and bags, clearly marked for what is NOT in them. When asked by our children why our milk is powdered or why their Mom makes her own washing detergent, we convincingly (and truthfully) respond that it saves lots of money.

Preppers’ PING!!
That's my simple solution.

a survivable situation might include short term lawlessness with roving bands of ferals, but if its the govt that is the roving band, its over....
I prepare only to save money now, to provide for family in the future, and because you probably can't find a better investment....banks aren't paying anything...
I don’t talk about my prepping with the non-believers I know...or rather the DOPES that THINK Mother Government will SAVE them should TSHTF. *Rolleyes*
Why make yourself a target? I’m MORE than willing to help those I love in a crisis situation.
The rest of ‘em? Notsomuch, LOL!
You might be. I've got a sweet spot picked out and the tree limbs already trimmed.

I don’t think it’s about what people think.
I believe the reasoning here is if people know you’re prepping, you’ll have to fend of a dozen neighbors if the SHTF.
when I do my shopping [on a monthly basis] i always get more than we need for the month. that way it does not draw any extra attn from anyone.
Why? Have you done the analysis? How many armed government officials can go a roving? Not counting the ones staying at home protecting their 4 bedroom home, 2 1/2 children, and their brand new sports car?
How many of them are up for 'camping' like I go camping?
How many of them are there? Compared to say.... left handed folks that knit and kill their own deer?

My neighbors know me. You do know your neighbors, right?
My neighbors know better. They are prepared to survive, or prepared to curl up and die.

It’s not “prepping for the end of the World”...
It’s “prepping so that when the crash comes, it ISN’T the End.”
you think you can really shoot people?...kill people?....I don’t know if I could....
That want to steal your money? Your freedom? Your life?
Its just organized crime.
If the govt is the roving band, they'll be fighting a war of attrition.
They cannot afford a war of attrition (see Solzenhitsyn).
And yes... I raised my hand and swore the oath, and enlisted twice to pick up arms for my country. Killing people and breaking things is part of that.

That’s one of the things Claire Wolfe put on her list of “101 Things To Do Until The Revolution”.
“Decide what you’re willing to kill for. Not what you’re willing to die for, but what you’re willing to kill for.”
Yeah, but you've been to Cooking School.
Not all of us have been to Cooking School!
A clerk rang up a mosquito head-net for me last week and said, “So you like to camp?”
I said it was going in my bug-out bag, and that the only thing I hate worse than camping is mosquitos.
