Toyota Signs Multi-Year Extension with Sonoma Raceway:

Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A. and the Northern California Toyota Dealers have signed a multi-year agreement to continue as co-title sponsor of the annual NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Sonoma Raceway. Toyota has served as co-title sponsor of the Toyota/Save Mart 350 since 2007, as well as the raceway’s official vehicle. The three-year extension will mark 10 years of sponsorship with Sonoma Raceway. The 2014 season marks Toyota’s 10th anniversary participating in NASCAR national series competition. “Sonoma Raceway is one of the premier motor-sports venues on the West Coast and our partnership enables us to showcase the freshest line up of cars, trucks and SUVs in the industry,” said Henry Hansel, president of the Northern California Toyota Dealer Advertising Association. Toyota will also continue as title sponsor of the raceway’s annual Toyota/Save Mart 350 preview show on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area. The 30-minute special, which airs a minimum of six times during the month of June, has been nominated for a sports Emmy award in past years. The agreement also includes hospitality, extensive signage, promotional rights and other assets during major event weekends in Sonoma, including comprehensive, interactive displays for race fans during the June NASCAR event. “We could not be more proud of our association with the Toyota brand, their terrific lineup of cars and trucks and the outstanding group of dealers in our region,” said Steve Page, Sonoma Raceway president and general manager. “We are grateful for their support of the raceway and the NASCAR event and look forward to working together for many years to come.” For tickets or information on the Toyota/Save Mart 350, June 20-22, please call 800-870-RACE or visit www.racesonoma.com/nascar.(Sonoma Raceway)(6-18-2014)

Ambrose talks about his contract status:

#9-Marcos Ambrose was on the NASCAR Cam Teleconference Wednesday morning, and one of the subjects brought up was his contract situation with Richard Petty Motorsports:

Q) You said last fall when you announced you were going to resign with RPM, this was going to be critical for you, but are you starting to work through that in your head about what's next after this season in terms of NASCAR or elsewhere?

(Insert Aussie Down Under Accent here)

MARCOS AMBROSE: "Yeah, certainly that's right. I'm in a renewal year with Richard Petty for 2015. I'm not really thinking about myself here. I just want the best for RPM. They have decisions to make along the way here. I want to help them make their decisions and be where they want to be. I haven't really thought about anything much but that. I want to make sure that RPM are on the right path and I'm going to do everything I can to make sure I help them do that.

Amerigas partners with 7-Eleven to sponsor Boris Said on the #32:

7-Eleven, Inc. with AmeriGas will be the primary sponsor on the #32 car owned by Go FAS Racing and driven by Boris Said in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series road course race at Sonoma Raceway on Sunday, June 22. "I'm thrilled to be back in a car sponsored by 7-Eleven," commented Said. "We were partners at the 2008 Sonoma race with 7-Eleven and Slurpee on the car and I am pleased to be able to continue that partnership again this year with 7-Eleven and AmeriGas. I'm looking forward to having a great weekend back on the track. I've always enjoyed Sonoma and have had some solid top-10 finishes there. I'm looking forward to adding to that number on Sunday." Said has competed in 14 Sprint Cup races at Sonoma, earning one pole position and five top-10 finishes. In 47 career Sprint Cup Series starts, Said has earned two top-five finishes, eight top-10s and two pole positions (Sonoma in June 2003 and Daytona Beach, Fla., in July 2006). A native of Carlsbad, Calif., Said continues to compete on road course races several times a year. When he isn't turning left and right, Said is managing his BMW of Murrieta dealership in California.

"AmeriGas is excited to partner with 7-Eleven for this sponsorship in Sonoma with Go FAS Racing," said Andy Patton, AmeriGas' vice president of corporate development. "This is a way to market our partnership together to NASCAR fans around the country. Fans everywhere are using our product for grilling and camping at races and 7-Eleven provides for quick and easy propane exchange." "Ever since Boris and I started together in 2006, we have had a shot to win in Sonoma. I know with Boris in the car this weekend we will have another opportunity to compete for a win," said Frank Stoddard, owner of Go Fas Racing. "We've been working over the past few years to have 7-Eleven back with us and with the support of AmeriGas this year we were able to bring it all together. We're all looking forward to the race weekend and hopefully some great results for 7-Eleven and AmeriGas."(Go FAS Racing), see an image of the scheme on the #32 Team Schemes page.(6-18-2014)

Jimmie Johnson was fortunate to survive a wreck at Watkins Glen when he was in Busch. I could live without any road courses in NASCAR.

I remember that one, it was a head-on into a big foam barrier.
Then he jumped on the roof of the car IIRC.

I road raced for 7 yrs in SCCA, so I’m kind of partial to it.
There was a time when a Dan Gurney or Parnelli Jones could drop in and win races like that.

Now the Nascar boys are so good at it, the regulars win all the time.

I think a lot of this stuff has always happened at one time or another, it’s just that everybody has access to video recording equip 24/7 and an instant way to disseminate it to the world.

After becoming the president of Charlotte Motor Speedway, Wheeler earned the reputation for organizing publicity stunts. A few weeks after driver Cale Yarborough gave the less-than-complimentary nickname ‘Jaws’ to rival driver Darrell Waltrip, Wheeler bought a giant dead shark, placed a dead chicken in the shark’s mouth, and had it driven around the track on a flatbed truck before a race at Charlotte (Yarborough’s sponsor at the time was Holly Farms Poultry).[1] In 1984, the pre-race show for the World 600 was a reenactment of Operation Urgent Fury, the invasion of Grenada the previous year.

In 2007, Wheeler announced that the Bank of America 500 would feature an “all-you-can-eat grandstand,” where fans would pay a set ticket price, and would then get to eat as much as they wanted of the grandstand’s food before, during, and after the race. The publicity for this event included Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest champion Joey Chestnut at the press conference.

The 600: History of NASCAR’s toughest race is on FS2 Saturday at 11:00 PM for a Replay.

I miss Humpy.
Guess he and Bruton Smith came to a parting of the ways.

He’s been really low profile lately, I realize at 75 yrs old some guys slow down, but he was never one to be out of the public eye.

Humpy is running a neat Hudson Hornet in the Great American Road Race. My friend is chasing him in a support vehicle...
