Long ago, Bryant Collins learned the value of choosing the right path.
"I've been in a lot of bad situations," he admitted.
But this past Friday, Collins found, on the side of Highway 72 in Georgia, a chance to save a life.
A baby girl had crawled through the woods, 300 yards from home.
"I had seen something out of the corner of my eye, and I thought it was a baby," Collins recalled. "I just stopped and, when I got out, there was a baby...almost in the highway."
After calling 911, Collins stayed with the baby for two hours as emergency crews checked her out.
"The baby started crying," Collins said, "so I turned my phone on and let her listen to some gospel music, and she calmed right down. I know gospel music calms me down."
Though he was called a hero, Collins could never have saved the life of this baby if he had not, long ago, saved his own.
"I did 10 years in the federal institution for manufacturing cocaine," Collins said. "While I was in prison, I decided I can't come home like I came to prison."
Collins has been free and clean for five years. It's in his new job as an auto repairman that he found himself on the side of the road, a baby's life literally in his hands.
"It made me feel good that I could be in society and do good," he said. "Just as well as you can do bad, you can do good, you know."
Awww. That’s a nice picture. Now, why was baby in the road?
I thought this was about one of the babies that crawled a thousand miles through Mexico to enjoy our free market and rugged individualism like what Brit Hume and Rand Paul were saying.
He was following the chicken.
Bryant Collins is a stand-up guy. God bless him.
Wow. God bless this man.
I don’t know exactly how it went down but from what I heard this morning the father was arrested.
This was on the news. The father was working outside and left an older child in charge.
The child crawled away, 300 yards, through the woods.
She had bug bites and lots of scratches.
They said the father was arrested.
According to this:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2660186/Man-saves-child-crawling-near-highway-parents-left-kids-home-alone.html
The girl's mother told authorities she and her husband left the house and their other children, ages 13, nine and five, were supposed to be watching the baby.
The Department of Family and Children Services was brought in but decided to release the child to the mother's care so that she could be taken for medical treatment.
Authorities said charges also could be filed against the girl's mother.
This man saved that little baby’s life. Bless him. Baby seems to like him too. Instinct maybe?
Amen, someone who really did turn their life around, God bless him.
Many years ago I was at a Bass Shoe Store. Had three kids with me. the baby was wearing a red had and a crawler. I was outfitting the other two. I kept an eye on the red hat. while I was working. When I went around the corner to get the baby, the red hat was a red something that was for sale, and I frantically looked around. There was a line of people at the cash register to the front door. 22 people stood there and watched my baby crawl past them and out the door and she was sitting in the middle of the parking lot. I ran out and got her and walked in slowly to gather the other children. I stopped and looked at each of the adults in the line. None would meet my eye.
We live in a fallen world.
are there any more details? It seems odd they’d be brought in and charge the parents if they left a 13 year old in charge for a bit. That’s pretty commonplace.
I’m just shaking my head. What does the Bible say about the love of many growing cold...?
A very lucky baby.
.
God Bless Him.. God DOES change people who allow HIM to do so!!
What a sweet photo.
Trouble is, especially if you are man, if you run up to a strange kid and look after them, there is a good chance people will assume you are a pedo and then you are screwed. Its easier to just assume the responsible adult will be along shortly to pick them up.
To get to the other side?
One lucky kid to saved by such a good soul.
Good for this guy! He is a hero.
