Hawg Gun of Long Pig gun?
Just wonderin’.
Hawg Gun or, “OR - not ‘of’ Long Pig gun.
Bad fingers, BAAAD FINGERS!
Pig gun? I thought 300 winmag was about the minimum for hogs.
My Vepr was in .308
And way cheaper than 308. I want!
Did you get the type 1 (slant back) or type 2 (square back)? I have the 20” type 2 but it had the very rough wood (which is now refinished). I pulled all that off and put all new black fiberglass/aluminum furniture on. I added a Nodak Spud Tabuk flash hider (after grinding the pin out) with a POSP 3-9 scope.
Have been told this caliber is becoming known as the “Russian 30.06”.
I would imagine 203 grains of lead at any sort of velocity orta be quite more than ‘enough’.
The gun I bought was made in 2013, wood furniture very elegant and easy to like. The accuracy of the thing surprised me.
I’d call this one a pure hunting gun. You don’t need anything that big for military purposes other than sniper rifles and this isn’t a sniper rifle.

LOL.
Typical feral hog is 175 to 200 pounds. 300 winmag would be overkill, I think.
Geez, did I really need one of those /joke tags?
Sorry. Some people see those photos of big 500 lb. hogs and think they’re all like that.
This is an aside from this thread,am in the market for a Remington 700, any leads or advice on where to go for a decent deal?
Don’t buy it if it’s not a new trigger model and you can’t tell if your not a gunsmith.
Put in your zip code and select the make and model you want and you will see several offers from local gun stores. Pick the lowest one you want, or take a printout to your local distributor to see if they'll meet or beat the lowest price.
This round goes up to about 3800 ft/lbs, the Winmag to about 4000.
Would expect either to work fine.
BTW, there’s an outfitter in GA who used to advertise boar hunts using spears. Real men only need apply.
Gunbroker.com usually works best once you get used to their business model and can line up somebody with an FFL to ship firearms to and transfer them. You should look at Savage rifles as well, they’re as good as anything else out there, easier to work on, and don’t involve paying for a name. The lock-nut system of head spacing Savage uses really is a better idea.
