Nice American boyz beat the weird haired, drum beating, trumpet squealing, witchdoktored Ghoners.
GO USA!
FUBO!

and if anyone asks why i posted, then, it’s b/c i wanted to use john effin kerry appropriately.
Haven’t watched US soccer development that closely going into the World Cup. Apparently he knows something. ;-)
Accident.
Real soccer is much harder.
I guess the hoodoo didn't work out tonight ...
That was just pure guts out there by the US against a great team.
They bent but didn’t break.
It wasn’t pretty, no one is going to mistake them for Brazil, Italy or Germany, but their sheer will got it done.
That five minutes of extra time in the second half seemed way too much; in the first half, there was a lengthy stoppage for an injured player, yet the first half had the same five minutes stoppage time as the second half, where there was no lengthy stoppage of play. Instead of giving the ref this blank check to add as much time as he wants, WHY DON’T THEY JUST STOP THE CLOCK WHEN THERE IS A PENALTY, INJURY, GOAL, OR BALL-IN-THE-STANDS, and end the game or the half when the standard time expires? Define, by rule, when the clock stops, and stop it. Strip the refs of this arbitrary power to add as much time as they want.
Great game to watch. The US needs to keep possession when they’re ahead. Defense for 90 minutes won’t work against Portugal or Germany. That said, it’s awesome that the US broke the Ghana curse.
Hugely impressed with both Klinsmann and Brooks, who had a nice run of form at the end of the Bundesliga season.
Bob Bradley’s USA team folds in that situation. Bruce Arena’s USA team never reaches that situation. Klinsmann’s USA team wins the game.
My only criticism was that I thought the style of play when we had the ball was too direct in a game when they were getting overwhelmed in possession. Too careless in midfield with the ball, too much easy loss of possession and too much unnecessary pressure on the back line.
But hey a win’s a win.
Bradley MUST play better against Portugal.
The rule of thumb is thirty seconds added time per substitution. There were five in the second half. Five minutes was too much to add but I had figured on at least three.
I’m with you. I didn’t like Bradley at all tonight. I prefer him in a more central role anyway, and with the trouble the back line had containing diagonal runs, maybe even as a holding midfielder to help the defenders. I think he’s best when he has the game in front of him. JMO.
The ref is supposed to do that, AFAIK. He's the official timekeeper.
It’s quite possible FIFA may act retroactively on that due to the blood. As you say, clearly a reckless challenge and dangerous play.
Anyone know who the guy was that left with the Hammy injury? Is he a important player for us?
(Not a soccer follower but will be watching the next game)
Most Obama voters shared your sentiment.
WOOO FEETBALL WOOO
Actually that was a heck of a game. I know everybody’s hyped about the USA winning but either we’re not very good at keeping possession or Ghana was an amazing counterattacking team. They were taking shots all over the place in the second half and always seemed to be right where the ball was to take it whenever the USA would get down toward their goal.
And now Altidore’s probably out, and they’ve got to play a highly pissed-off Portugal next. Even without Pepe, Portugal is a huge favorite.

Its always been a tradition.
People really don’t pay attention to the clock.
There is always going to be extra time. :)
