Miami Heat’s dream is coming to a crashing halt
Miami Herald ^ | 6/13/14 | Greg Cote

The Heat looks like a team out of answers, and worse, out of belief. The Heat looks like a team out of hope, and just about out of time.

Miami’s dream of a third straight NBA championship is expiring, and it is not doing so nobly, but rather wrapped in something uncomfortably close to embarrassment. This is not ending as much as it is crashing with the sound of something broken. Something shattering.

You heard booing in the downtown bayside arena Thursday night as the Heat was crushed 107-86 in a Game 4 Finals loss that put the Spurs in 3-1 command heading back to San Antonio.

A two-time defending champion chasing a three-peat, booed by its own fans, in its own building, in an NBA Finals. The booing was neither sustained nor loud, but you heard it, and it was a jarring sound, like heckling in church.

Miami must now make history to win this series and keep its budding dynasty intact. No team in league history has overcome a 3-1 Finals deficit to win. None. Not once. And the Heat must now win three games in a row – two in San Antonio – against a Spurs team that just dominated Miami at home for a second straight game.

Boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., who sat courtside, reportedly lost $2.6 million on Thursday night by betting on Miami to win.

“They smashed us,” said LeBron James.

“Whipped our butt,” said Dwyane Wade.

And it was too obvious to ignore that James came here from Cleveland to get away from the very situation that enveloped him Thursday night:

Being a superstar alone.

Having no help.

We are still one win away, but; thank you. That was very gracious.

Yes. But then I rejected the premise because if they had fought when they first had the opportunity, Manny would have beaten the snot out of Floyd.

Did Manny beat the snot out of Juan Manuel Marquez? From what I remember they had a few close decisions then Marquez knocked Pacquiao out cold. This is the Mayweather-Marquez fight after a 21-month layoff. Even with ring rust it's like a pro fighting an amateur. What makes you think Pacquiao would fare any better?

I'm not sure why they are still playing basketball anymore seeing as how the most important mission of the NBA is removing racist Americans from within our country.

I would think that they would be helping FEMA to set up reeducation camps and constructing gallows for those determined to be too far gone...

“Indeed. MLB has been plagued with this phenomenon for decades. Can you say Bill Buckner?”

Billy Buckner letting the ball go through the wickets in 1986 WS on bad pins after playing in the majors since 1969 is your example of coming up through the minor leagues with no fundamentals?

The sports with super popular free minor leagues are the ones that produce the prancing thuggish jerks for the pros. Baseball minor leagues generally weed out the jerkwads, you are not a superstar.

Can’t wait to see these guys lose. I never liked their “spend to win” tactics. And the way James gave Jordan “the look” earlier in the playoffs (or was it in the regular season?) made me dislike him all the more. He will never be on the same level as Jordan.

My friend just reminded me that Jordan did a movie with the great Bugs Bunny. What the hell has Lebron done?

Same approach that Ray Leonard took with Roberto Duran. When Duran could still fight, Leonard was toast, especially in the lightweight division where Duran was a monster. Age, increased weight, and lack of desire allowed Leonard to win against an opponent who kicked his ass during his prime.

I did say ‘when they first had the opportunity’. That was a looong time before the Marquez fight. No way Manny would have lost to Mayweather. Again, my opinion.

No. There are countless others. But it it is an example of a pro baseball player not fielding a ground ball in the most fundamental way. Having his legs open like a wicket is not the way it is taught. Not the way it should be done. You charge the ball and have one leg in front of the other. If he had done that, the ball would have hit his front leg or even his back leg and the ball would be in front of him. Likely result, Wilson out at first.

Regardless of his physical condition, he should never have fielded the ball the way he did. It shows a lack of knowledge of the fundamentals.
