Billy Buckner letting the ball go through the wickets in 1986 WS on bad pins after playing in the majors since 1969 is your example of coming up through the minor leagues with no fundamentals?

No. There are countless others. But it it is an example of a pro baseball player not fielding a ground ball in the most fundamental way. Having his legs open like a wicket is not the way it is taught. Not the way it should be done. You charge the ball and have one leg in front of the other. If he had done that, the ball would have hit his front leg or even his back leg and the ball would be in front of him. Likely result, Wilson out at first.

Regardless of his physical condition, he should never have fielded the ball the way he did. It shows a lack of knowledge of the fundamentals.

Yeah, it was a badly played ball. But even Brooks Robinson had three errors in one inning. I was just saying these kids just called up who don’t know how to throw it to the cut off man today seems more egregious to me, and more to your point.
