I am a good tipper even though I agree with most of what the writer says. Why should the cook who prepares the food earn less than the person who takes the food to the table?
That’s what I thought. But see post 4 and 5.
Evidently some places do share tips. But how is that fair to the servers who do not even earn minimum wage?
They don't. Cooks are paid more.
Depending on the restaurant the cook is probably earning as much or more than the waiter. And he isn't dependent on people leaving a tip instead of a snarky note.
You really do not understand the restaurant business. There is no line cook, chef (of any variety) or kitchen staff who is paid LESS than servers and waiters.
I guess you too are one of those who buy the idea of ‘income equality’....look at other systems and countries who have tried that. Better yet look at the civil service system...that tells you all you need to know
Because the cook does not normally have to put up with the likes of the person who wrote this letter.
They don't. Cooks have a higher wage than servers, and depending on the type of place, a far higher wage. Servers typically have a sub-minimum wage and make up the difference with tips. In most places, servers will split tips with bus boys and other serving staff.
Because the cook is payed much more than the server (min wage plus v less than min wage).
