OK, so we are sitting around at the office sipping a little bourbon, what with the bourbon Apocalypse and all is cause for concern, discussing this production, which I have not seen. Based on the discussion, I doubt that I will ever see it.

It seemed to be the usual A&E and History Channel production values. Wrong uniforms, wrong weapons, wrong dudes from the Screen Actors Guild reading lines out of Alice in Wonderland. We all agreed that these History Channel dudes could use us - nerds and geeks who actually knew something about uniforms, weapons, history, tactics, and we’d be willing to work cheaply. Our conclusion is that they don’t care. Why spend an extra $500 to make it visually, historically, and tactically accurate when the sponsors will buy their ads no matter how bad the crap is that rolls out of production. Ignorance, incompetence, indifference. Quite a combination. I’m glad that I watched the Royals lose twice to the Astros.

Many years ago, I saw a review of “The Wind and the Lion” in one of the gun magazines. The reviewer was a military expert and he complemented them on getting the rifles completely correct.

Then some yahoo wrote in and pointed out that some of the Springfields were actually 03A3s. Sometimes you just can’t get it right.

You would have thought that USAA - the primary sponsor I believe - would have at least had more input. I dunno...maybe they did and we are just being picky.

Kinda like if the golf channel does a documentary on Jack Nicklaus and says he won the 1986 Masters tournament by beating Trevino 3 and 2 in the matchplay final in the rain. At least the young’uns would learn that he won the 1986 Masters...;^)

“Bourbon Aocalypse? Will the 20 or so bottles I have be enough to survive?

It’s funny how standards have changed over the decades. “Victory at Sea” replays on A&E were staples of my youth, and were rife with misplaced and overused footage. Don’t even get me started on a lot of the WWII films (M48s as Panthers/Tigers and Chaffees as Shermans in Battle of the Bulge) and TV shows ( Baa Baa Blacksheep ... ‘nuff said)
