>> modern libertarianism is anathema to all things conservative. Its immoral.
Well, libertarianism is about enforcement, not morality. Your issue, R2, is with modern liberalism, not libertarianism. Liberalism and conservatism describe morality. Statism and libertarianism are the enforcement factors.
The Libertarian Party has about as much in common with libertarianism, as does the Democrat Party with democracy, and the Republican Party with republicanism. That said, there is a significant element of Liberalism within the Libertarian Party. So when folks like you, R2, condemn popular Libertarianism, I can understand why; however, it doesn’t make sense to nettle the libertarian FReepers that have made it clear they’re not Liberal, but state unequivocally to be conservative.
Some say libertarianism is a mere step above anarchy. Well, understand that in an anarchic society, the confirmed pedophiles would be hunted and summarily executed. Have no doubt about that.
Thanks Gene for your rational reply. But I would argue that libertarianism is about UNenforcement. I do understand the libertarian position about restricting the size of government and all that. There are indeed too many laws and way too many regulations.
But modern libertarians goes way beyond this. You know what got this current flame war between me and bama started? It was a Rand Paul thread from a day or two ago. Where Paul wanted to agree to disagree on social issues.
Understand that Rand Paul is THE poster child for modern libertarianism, and that his positions are definitely NOT favored here at FR. And so I used that springboard to expand on my contempt for other lib issues. Bama then went on to add me - without my consent - to his ping list and I went on to ping him to articles like this.
In the interest of semi-resolving this matter, I would ask that bamahead remove me from his ping list and I will quit pinging him for any reason.
