Legendary conservative columnist George Will says he is an atheist. [ ]
Im an amiable, low voltage atheist, Will explained. I deeply respect religions and religious people. The great religions reflect something constant and noble in the human character, defensible and admirable yearnings.
I am just not persuaded. Thats all, he added.

So are the majority of Americans in cities on the East and West Coasts.
That statement is probably more offensive and less defensible than what George Will said.
The difference is not superfluous in current, modern vernacular. Very similar to the literal semantic differences between liberal/conservative, progressive/liberal. We all know what we're talking about here regarding deism/theism.
This explains a lot!
there are those who say that some of the founding fathers were closet agnostic and perhaps even atheist...some did some not very Christian things (as the ladies of Paris might be able to confirm), and there was no sign of being repentant.
It is absolutely impossible to be a Cubs fans and NOT believe in God
I use that exact point when I ever take to atheist...
I have never gotten a reasonable cogent response...
You might be interested in Hank Schlinger’s work on consciousness (http://web.calstatela.edu/faculty/hschlin/). Radical behaviorists, generally, agree with you about that “consciousness is not pretty colors on an MRI image of the brain” and have some very interesting interpretations based on principles of behavior.
The country would not have been founded if there were a plethora of atheists among the Founding Fathers.
Read Lee Strobel’s “Casr for a Creator. You’ll be impressed, I think. Bob
And he is articulate!
How do YOU explain consciousness?
What if neurobiologists CAN explain consciousness in 10 years, in the same way that God was responsible for lightning and viral illness before we knew better? What happens then?
Must be easy to be able to say " God diddit!!" and feel satisfied.
WADR, you already know how believers explain consciousness. Not possible to shift the burden of proof at this point.
I am just not persuaded. Thats all, he added
Often, when people are so brilliant, they see right through the whole ‘invisible man in the sky’ thing. Like me when I was about 14 or so.
Thing have changed considerably in my mind since then...
I’m not asking for the burden of proof, just an explanation. It seems like a perfectly reasonable question.
Basically... out of all the ridiculous religion stories which are greatly, wonderfully ridiculous the silliest one Ive ever heard is, Yeah... theres this big giant universe and its expanding, its all gonna collapse on itself and were all just here just cause... just cause. That, to me, is the most ridiculous explanation ever.
If Trey Parker can conflate order coming out of nothing with a Higher Being imposing Physical Law on a lower level of existence, then his ‘intellect’ is purely self serving.
