10. Raj and Howard are gay.
9. Howard's Masters degree.
8. Soft Kitty.
7. You're in my spot.
6. Video chat with Raj's parents.
5. Bazinga!
4. Raj's selective mutism (women/alcohol).
3. Mrs. Wolowitz.
2. Three knocks.
1. The roommate agreement.
For more information and a few chuckles, please watch the video. What's missing from the list? Is the order of the list correct?
10. Wrongly put. Raj and Howard are not at all gay; they just face people expecting they are, especially given Raj’s inability to socialize with women and his interests in certain things more associated with women.
It’s not a running gag per se, but what fascinates me about the show is the awe shown at times for believers Einstein and Newton - and the full on man love for the atheist Steven Hawking. Then again, I’ve become a late comer to an interest in quantam physics ..
The show is brilliantly done ...
10 is not wrongly put .that’s why they call it a running gag - it’s a theme of the show, even though it is not literally true.
I would add that Leonard is hopelessly out of his league with Penny, and such a relationship would never happen.
.and FTR, I think Soft Kitty is awful. Worst gag they have IMO .
They converse like old married people at times, even now that Howard is married.
Number 4 isn’t so much anymore.
The three girls have developed some running gags as well.
11. Penny’s sexcapades, including bedding Raj that ended prematurely.
I also like the way Sheldon’s mother is portrayed. Yeah, she’s a fundamentalist nutball, but she’s obviously wise in a way her son is not, and she is portrayed with affection, not the contempt so common when conservative Christians are portrayed in the media.
None of the parents come off particularly well, and Leonard’s mother was quite obviously a much worse parent than Mrs. Cooper.
Love this program! Funniest thing I’ve seen since my wedding.
Mayam Bialik is a hoot, and a great complement to Sheldon’s character.
Leonard and Penny? It works.
Raj and Howard? What’s to say...
Bernadette? Great character.
Missing from the running gag list? Stewart at the comic book store, and Cripke’s (sp?) interactions with Sheldon. Same for Wil Wheaton (Wesley Crusher).
Well cast ensemble, IMO. Very funny writing.
Actually. Penny and Leonard were dating “undercover”. It was in the part of the series where Leonard was fawning over her and she wasn’t interested. They kept it secret as they didn’t want reality to ruin the leonard chasing Penny part of the show.
You are right .and it’s one of the things I like about the show.
Sheldon’s mom is portrayed at times as a kook, but definitely comes off far better than any other parent, injecting her wise ways into any number of shows. She “handles” Sheldon’s peculiarities with an easy grace that no one else can.
Are you talking about the fact that the actress playing Penny and the actor playing Leonard were dating? I know abou that - it’s not relevant .I have no idea who these people are in real life, but there’s no way a “Penny” dates a “leonard” as portrayed on the show.
Apples and coconuts .
I agree, and pushing that relationship sours the entire show, IMHO.
This show is hilarious btw. Really well done, with a cast of incredible actors and actresses.
He is immature, obstinate, rude, socially retarded (Possibly mentally so. Not 'crazy'. He's not. His mother had him tested). He is not nearly as intelligent as he thinks he is and there would be no show without him.
The only glimpse of reality concerning his character is the flashback to when he and Leonard met. The ex-roommate spray painted "Die Sheldon Die" on his bedroom wall. In reality, someone would have put Sheldon's lights out long ago...or flat out killed him. In fact, it is good that he associates with inherently non-violent 'friends' and exists within an academic environment in California. He is thus insulated from different segments of our culture who would take pleasure in doing him harm.
But I love the show. Seen all the episodes.
I agree it’s what my wife and I debate (good naturedly) about the show I think it takes away from the show - far better when he was just fanatasizing about her while a parade of jocks come and go across the hall ...
The only show whose reruns I watch repeatedly.
Amy’s frustrated sexual desire is another reoccurring gag.
You bring up something that reminds me of something else I like about the show .they are refreshingly honest about the fact that Big Education is about only one thing .MONEY. The Deans and administrators are all about the money, the characters admit at times their research is a money scam ..all of this is of course true about big eductation .and here’s a show with 6 well paid academics, and rarely do any of them teach anyone anything .
