I would add that Leonard is hopelessly out of his league with Penny, and such a relationship would never happen. I agree, and pushing that relationship sours the entire show, IMHO.

I agree…it’s what my wife and I debate (good naturedly) about the show…I think it takes away from the show - far better when he was just fanatasizing about her while a parade of jocks come and go across the hall…...

The Penny/Leonard relationship strikes me as an homage to Revenge of the Nerds where Lewis wins over the head cheerleader with his technique. After one encounter with Penny, Leonard admits: “I googled how to do that.”
