MICHIGAN CITY | Officials at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore announced Thursday that scientists still do not know what caused holes to appear in Mount Baldy last summer, and the popular attraction will remain closed for further study.
Nathan Woessner, 6, of Sterling, Ill., was swallowed by a hole July 12 and rescued by firefighters.
Two additional holes have appeared since July, park officials said Thursday.

I’m not saying it was aliens, but it was aliens.

I’m tempted to say sandworms, but it’s not the same Dune.
In White Sands National Monument, the dunes will creep over a tree. The tree eventually decays, leaving a trunk-shaped hole in the sand. Hasn’t happened recently, but in the past, people walking over such a cavity have fallen in, and usually the cavity collapses.
So maybe there are old trees or telephone poles under the dune.
Perhaps if they STOPPED LAUGHING at Art Bell, they could find the REAL CAUSE of this.
Near Chicago. One theory is Chicago sucks-— leaving the holes in Indiana
Tremors
Although the holes were rather small, they had to count them all.
Imagine, you could go up there, drop down into a sinkhole unexpectedly, get covered over with sand and people would say it was a mystery. They knew you went up into the mountain, but then never came down.
This is how some of this mysterious disappearance stuff happens.
Anyone checked the back of his neck??
Could be a Sarlacc Pit developing.
My very first thought. When I saw this movie as a kid, I was afraid to walk on sand...LOL!
Aww hell, let’s just blame global fracking and call it a day.
You beat me by three minutes, stupid phone!
That movie scared the bejeesus out of me as a kid.
Worked there in the 90s. The dune was moving a few feet every year, covering trees as it went. They eventually rot, opening up these holes. No mystery to anyone at the park service, only to stupid journalist. Use to climb the dunes at night and watch the sunset light up the chicago skyline. Other than that living there sucked. As did working for the nps and having to peddle their lies.
